The statement said Li attacked McLean "for no apparent reason" and ignored other horrified passengers as he repeatedly stabbed the young man, who unsuccessfully fought for his life.

The other passengers were cowards. Li had time to carve up and eat body parts. What were passengers doing outside the bus, having a picnic?

Yeah.. the busdriver who got EVERYONE else off the bus safely and then barricaded the door of the bus so Li couldn't get out and hurt anyone else.. total coward indeed..

Incidentally, have you read any books about the Holocaust?

There's been 60-odd years of speculation as to why millions of people simply walked to their deaths without lifting a finger to stop it - even after they knew what they faced in the camps.

There are even stories of the inmates turning against each other - in order to secure better food and shelter from the Nazis.

One of the distasteful truths about that event was that the people who operated the gas chambers and the ovens (and shaving the hair off the corpses), were not Nazi soldiers or officers - but the actual camp inmates.

Auschwitz had a couple of attempted breakouts by Sonderkommando units - the most famous one resulted in the destruction of one of the crematoria and killed a number of SS officers.

I mean... if you know you're going to die you have nothing to lose by fighting back, even if you are killed doing so, because if even 100 or 1000 people died to kill one SS officer - the Nazis would not have been able to carry out the extermination policy.

Naturally that doesn't mean anyone can justify passing judgement on the conscience of individuals who faced that situation, because extreme situations like that alter someone's personal reality and suspend their rationality.

Quite simply - you can't have any idea what you would do in an extreme situation unless you are in some ways hardened to things like that (which creates its own psychology of trauma).

I'm sure some of the passengers now wish they had tried to do something. I can't judge them for it, not knowing how I would react myself.

Speculation- You'd try to reason with the killer or ask about book deal.

The folks on the 9/11 flight who attacked the hijackers didn't do so immediately - the initial shock and surprise at the takeover had to wear off first.

They thought they had bomb and didn't react until they got the calls that the other planes were crashing. Now people kick your azz and tie you up on a plane if make the slightest aggressive gesture.

Your whole argument is speculation!

The difference is that I'm willing to give people some benefit of the doubt because I have no idea how I would react in that situation.

If you were willing to be honest - you'd say as much too...

You've seen Star Wars right?

Remember the scene where Han chases frightened stormtroopers through the halls of the Death Star until they realise that there's more of them than of him.

Same thing.

Somebody said that already. Oh yeah that was me.

Remember the scene where Han chases frightened stormtroopers through the halls of the Death Star until they realise that there's more of them than of him.

Wait a minute. Wasn't Chewbacca with him at the time?

The bus wasn't the Death Star and I need to some work. My Jedi mind tricks of pretending to work can't last forever. My superiors are easily frightened at first but soon return and in greater numbers.
