thanks for all the help everyone. my wife refuses to believe her parents cant bring her brother so we are going to talk to immigration tomorrow. if we find anything different i will post it here.

thanks again!

Yeah. This is a very common response. She will probably insist on talking to several lawyers until she finds an incompetent one who will tell her what she wants to hear.

My niece who came her on a K1 about 3 years ago insists that she can petition for her parents once she becomes a US citizen and they can bring her 16 years old brother with them. I referred her to an immigration attorney and she would not believe him when he said that was not the way it works. She went to another attorney who told her the same thing. She insists that it can be done because other people in the nail shop that she works at know people who have done it that way. I don't know if this was possible way back when, but it is not possible under current laws.

This is the way it can work better:

1-Your wife petition for the parents right away

2-When they get the citizenship then they can petition for their son (your wife brother)

Around 5-6 years.

Good luck!!!

well i talked to uscis and they said pretty much what i had been seeing everywhere. 1 year for the parents then about 5 years to get her brother here after that. about 6 years for her brother. that could change by the time her parents file for her brother. could be a bit shorter or a bit longer. at least she will get to see her parents in a year!!

thanks for all the help and suggestions.

They are going to emigrate to the US and leave the 11 year old behind?
