My husband's interview was the US Embassy in Jordan on Nov. 19, 2008. They told him that everything looked good and that his papers were being sent to the State Department for another security check. We were told it would take 1-3 months. It has been 3 months and there is still no word. We check with embassy frequently but they say that they are waiting on the State Department.

Has anyone else had this happen? Where they were 'approved' but had to await ANOTHER security check from the state department? I can't find any information on this at all, anywhere, and believe me, I've looked!

The embassy just keeps telling us to 'hang in there, we only await the state department'. I'm not sure what that means. Have we been approved or not?

HELP!!

Your case has been placed in "administrative processing". There is no timeframe as every case is different.

You are "approved" but they will not issue the visa until the AP is finished.

Im sorry but know one can tell you how long you will be waiting.

What visa did you guys apply for?

Come join us here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141210

and there are threads everywhere on this site regarding "administrative processing" thats what you guys are in.

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

When did you file and when did you get approved? Your timeline doesn't reflect any of that. :time: when u get a chance ;)

Jordan, Male, probably has a common name (first/surname)?

These things probably triggered the AP.

Hang in there - some people are 1 year into AP sadly.

So THAT's what it's called...."administrative processing." I didn't know. Now I can look at the threads on here regarding that. I just didn't know what it was called!

"something of a timeline.." lol

- Married - Jordan, Nov. 11, 2007

- Filed immediately.

- We were approved for everything (sorry but don't have exact dates and names for everything with me right now. :)

- Husband's appointment at Embassy in Jordan - Nov. 19, 2008. Was told "everything is good. We must only send for one more security check. It takes an average of 1-3 months." That's it. That's all we were told. Our lawyer didn't even know what that meant. (Lawyer in Jordan - yes, we got a new lawyer). But my husband is doing everything from over there because I was living with him until a few months ago when I had to come back to the US to take care of my mother.

- Contacted the embassy again last week 02/26/09 and was told it was at the State Department. They have no idea when it will be sent, but it takes an average of 3 months.

I didn't even know it was called "administrative processing" until you wonderful people cleared it up for me. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. ! :luv:

Hopefully it won't take much longer.

Thank you for everything. :) It's good to hear from someone else in Jordan!

I'm not so sure I'm glad to know what it is now, though. LOL There are many mixed messages on here and to be honest with you, my husband was never given a paper stating he was on 'AP'. It's all so confusing. They gave him his passport back and said he had to undergo another security check. That's it. So, it's probably safe to 'assume' it is AP, but you know what they say about the word 'assume' (#### = u = me). I'll wait the requisite 90 days (excluding weekends and holidays..ugh) and then I will contact the DOS and my senator/congressman if need be. It just doesn't make any sense to be told "Hey! You're approved!" and then told..."after you pass another security check...." Are we "approved" or not??? Can they still say "no way"?? sigh...

Just venting. :)

I hope you don't get into this AP hole.....I was not able to be with my husband on our first anniversary and I haven't seen him in 8 months. We are not spring chickens (45 and 50) and we just want to live our lives together.

Inshallah...soon.

Hope your journey is a smooth one!

Hi Just_Jackie...

I feel you....we are on day 104 of AP. :(

But, I figured with all the holidays and weekends, our "90-day period" will be over on May 8. I looked on the DOS website and they do not count holidays and weekends. *surprise!* lol So, by our supposed "90-day period" it will actually have been 169 days. Depressing, I know. :(

I just keep praying it will happen sooner and that's all I can do.

I pray it happens soon for you too. This really is difficult.

~hugs~

Thanks again, Lisa.

I truly don't want to discourage you, but my husband went through the NVC AP as well. I truly hope you don't have to go through this too.

~hugs~

Well, its truly a ####### shoot. A couple just went through Amman a few weeks ago and he "escaped" the AP hell.

Just wanted to update: :)

I called the Department of State. They told me that when they are approved but are sent for administrative processing, that they are usually doing a 'name check'. I tried to get her to explain to me exactly what that was, but she couldn't or wouldn't. She just kept saying it was an extra check they run on the name. Then she (albeit politely) told me to contact the embassy from now on, not the DOS. lol She said they (US Embassy in Jordan) will be the first to be contacted and even if they (DOS) knew anything, they wouldn't tell me. I would still have to go through the emassy and, no, they do not have a time limit nor can they estimate a time. We will just have to "wait until the process is complete."

I just wanted to thank you all again for getting me started. It's hell not knowing even where to begin.

Good luck!

Have you seen USCIS's website? There was an article about getting rid of the name check backlog. They talked about speeding up the process now with a goal of 90 days or less... I thought that is semi-good news for those of us with Muslim husbands who might get stuck in AP.
