Hello all,

I am my wifes sponsor and she came here on a k1. Been here almost a year. We moved to Tennessee in Nov. Notified the government by mailing the form they wanted and apparently they did not read the mail. Hence, I was wondering the status of things in Febuary because we hadnt heard anything. So I call the government and the mailed the appointment letter in Dec and they didnt bother to let me know it was returned to them cause they dont forward government mail and they did not have my new address. Try calling the customer service number and verifying your address. They cant tell you!!! ANyway, we recently moved to Florida and changed our address online. They wont verify on the phone that they got the change if you can believe that. SO now my relatives mailed me my mail from the TN address and I notice that the date on the notice for interview was Feb 18, 2009 but yet the interview was scheduled January 12, 2009. What is up with that?? These people are sooooo stupid its insane. Now everything has been turned down such as work, and advanced parole and the AOS. To dispute this, the government wants to steal $585 from us. What to do?

You can re-apply or file a motion to re-open your existing application. If you cange address in the future you need to do the AR-11 on line and mail a copy and also make an infopass appointment at your new local office 2 weeks or so after you filed the AR-11 and check if they have updated your address. Also make sure your Name is on your mailbox.

Calling the 1-800-line is a waste of time and effort they can do very little and only have access to very limited info on your case. They are not USCIS officers they are Call Center staff.

Thanks, once I learned all this we notified them of our recent Florida address in the mail and online now that we have Internet and called. Yesterday, before reading yall's reply's, I called the 800#, explained about the mail mix up and the girl asked if I wanted to apply to have the AOS paperwork expedited on the grounds of USCIS being at fault for not changing the address processing so that will be interesting how that works out. Now she can't continue to work, & her AP is canceled which kills our marriage plans in Brazil and me meeting her dad before he dies. This something i hope can be reasonably fixed.

Also, when you update the address online, you need to read very carefully. You have to submit a change of address form for EACH pending case with USCIS. This means a separate change of address forms online for AOS, EAD, and AP. About 2-3 weeks later you should receive a change of address notice in the mail for each case.

Don't forget the sponsor change of address. I mailed mine certified with return receipt. (I couldn't find the online change of address for the sponsor).
