If we get married do we still have to comply with the met in person in last 2 years rule if we actually get married?

Is the met in person 2 year rule only relevant to the K1 fiance visa?

I am totally confused by this?

My situation is we have known each other 5 years

Started relationship 3 years ago but have not seen each other for 2.5 years just the daily contact by email, phone etc?

If we are married do we apply for CR1 and K3?

Thanks

My husband and I met 5 years ago, and were married in the UK June 2008 and applied for the CR-1.

2 years means within the last 2 years and it doesn't exclude longer relationships. I hope you are going to be together to get married. As long as the two of you have been in the same location at the same time once in the last 2 years you meet the requirement. If you have not been face to face in that period you have to see each other in the same placew before you file for any family visa

The 2 year rule applies only to the fiance/K1 visa. If you are planning to get married, make sure you marry in person - the USCIS will definitely give you a hard time if you don't.

After you are married, and when you start the immigration petitioning process, you will be initially filing for the CR1 visa. It is up to you if you want to simultaneously apply for the K3/spouse visa. The K3 visa option was created as a sort of alternative visa for couples wishing to reunite earlier (because the CR1 process can take a longer time.) However, as of late, the timelines for CR1 and K3 petitions are just about the same.
