Should I call? We are leaving April 15th for Thailand. We still have 9 days to get the magic letter and with a LOT of luck the PGC in the mail but I'm not feeling to optimistic. I'm also sweating that while we are away we will get a nice little RFE or letter for an interview in Atlanta. I guess as long as we have the one year extension letter all will be okay and someone will be checking the mail for me. I just knew with a transfer date to CSC of 2/25 that all would be perfect with the world. Certainly did not expect it until after the trip if it had stayed at VSC. It really is NEVER easy.

Hopefully you'll get the letter within this week! Then, you'll have to wait for the card to arrive. You can call but those people over the phone never really give you a definitive answer...your could case could be approved by now and they'll still tell you that it's pending. Good luck and be patient! You only have few more days to go, compared to how long you've waited so far.

Hi LastSurvivor,

I totally understand how you feel here, as likewise, I'm in a similar situation too, whereby I have to leave to go to Canada on April 14th and am still waiting for the "magic letter". Oh the agony of 9 days of waiting still, for an approval, rfe, or interview, or gosh knows what else the USCIS has to say!

On top of that, I can't travel much later than that, due to my high-risk pregnancy...

So I either go now in the next few days to Canada, or I don't go at all...Thanks a lot USCIS for possibly ruining my upcoming travel plans!....

As for your situation, if you do decide to go, yes, do have someone check for the mail for you while you are away and/or put your mail on hold while you are gone. Meanwhile, you can still travel with the valid extension letter, so you should be ok there. And if you do decide to call the "mis-information line" don't expect too much from there either, as they can't help you there either, since they only know what you know from your online status updates.

I agree, it's never easy with immigration......Meanwhile, I hope you will get approved soon too.

Hope this helps somewhat, to know that someone else is "in the same travel boat/airplane/car/other travel vehicle" as you are too. Good luck with your immigration journey as well.

Approved!! Just got the letter and the approval date is 04/01/09. According to USCIS website my application is still in VSC but I'm not complaining Thanks a bunch for all the advice and info. Now a couple of months off and then time to start the naturalisation application.

Don't forget to bring your biometrics letter with you if you don't receive the card before you go.......just so you don't get any grief as a couple of people have mentioned on another thread. I'll be hoping and praying you get the card before you go!! Have a lovely time in Thailand- somewhere I've always wanted to go!
