Lol, yes that's exactly what i was thinking the translations in the DMV are horrible! somebody needs to do something about this!.

Here in NJ you don't need to take the road test if you show them your valid unexpired DL from your country!

Too bad here you have to take the test Well.. we will see whats gonna happen.

What?!? Drivers aren't supposed to pull into the crosswalks... everyone here does it religiously.

Another tip, should you encounter it... sometimes a stop sign is placed so that if you stop in front of it, you can't actually see the traffic that could be coming at you, so you have to pull forward further to be able to see. If you pull forward past the sign and stop again it's considered unsafe because someone behind you only expects you to stop once... you have to pull past the sign so you can see both directions before stopping (my nephew failed his first driving test because he stopped before the sign, pulled forward so he could actually see and stopped again about a car length past the sign). It seems like a dirty trick so that police can issue tickets for rolling past a stop, how hard can it be to put a stop sign where you actually need to stop (like almost all of them are, I'm not even talking about a case of overgrown bushes/trees, they just put the stop sign 10 feet from the intersection)?

Bring the Appointment letter, Passport or ID of some sort, if the appointment letter has a different last name from your passport then bring your marriage certificate with you. There were 4 people in front of us that were sent away because they did not have their marriage certificate with them.

ya, your not supposed to stop in crosswalks. and btw THAT IS SOOO WEIRD that you cant pull past stop signs, like they kinda teach you that you are supposed to do that. 'stop at the sign' then 'inch forward to see appropriately' ohhh wellll... sounds like traveling to other states might be dangerous for all of us since there seem to be different laws in every 1.

That is not a tip. That is absolutely wrong. There are two rules. If there is a line painted at a stop sign, you must stop at the stop sign. If there is no line painted at the stop sign then you must stop at the corner. The follow-on to those rules is if it is a blind intersection (where your view is obstructed), then you are to inch forward, until you can see that it is safe to proceed.

The police will only write you a ticket if you roll past a stop sign into the intersection. Once your front wheels have entered the intersection you can be cited for failure to stop. What may have happened in the case of your nephew is he stopped at the sign, then rather then slowly (inching forward), drove up to the corner and then stopped, this is unsafe because it looks like you are accelerating.

For the most part the rules are the same across all states. When you go to another state, just be a little more cautious then you would when driving in your own state, if you are renting a car, the rental car agency will usually give you a hand out that tells you some differences in the traffic laws for that city or state if they differ from the norm. The big one, that I normally see is out here in the west we can make right turns on red lights, I know a few places I have traveled back east and the midwest that was not the case. If you do violate a traffic law and are pulled over with Out of State plates and license they will normally let you off with a warning. That happened to me once, I was polite and explained I did not know that right turns were not allowed on red, he let me off with a warning.

I have a ? i expedited my ead since last friday and received an email yeterday saying :Your petition, I-765 for an Employment Authorization Document is currently awaiting a final Adjudicators review. You should receive a decision or notice of other action within 60 days of the date of this letter.is this mean my expedite was accepted??Its been touched yesterday and today...How long usually it takes for them to send it after expedite??

Hi March filers! Glad to see things are moving so quickly for many of you! I'm an April filer, but I was wondering if someone could link me to the spreadsheet for March (if there is one- I've gone through 10+ pages of this thread without finding it) so I could get an idea of where all of you are, what kinds of RFEs you've received, etc. Thanks in advance!

Took my driver's license written test today... And I passed!

Now im worried about the driven test... I have my Brazilian drive's license since I was 18... so 11 years now.. Im really scared of the test

Be very careful when you approach crosswalks and make sure there is no one even remotely trying to cross the street. If you don't stop, they will flunk you. Ask Angela who failed twice because of it. Of course she has been driving in Brazil for many many years and is used to the "pedestrians have no rights" rule there

The hardest part of the driving test is to un-learn some of the bad habits of the everyday driver.

I got my AP yesterday not that I am planning any travels yet however I have a question, on top of my photograph there is a signature of a man "Richard Cowan". My husband thought they made a mistake and put someone's signature on top of my picture. I suspect Richard Cowan has something to do with USCIS? Does anyone have any input on that or does everyone else with their AP have the same signature as me?

Here in PA, you can make right hand turns on red, AS LONG AS IT ISNT POSTED OTHERWISE!! sometimes there is a sign 'no turn on red' and your not supposed to make right hand turns. other than that, you are good to go.

My husband's stressing about taking the PA test, I don't have my drivers license and he says it's alarming he learned American roads from a person who doesn't drive. The stop signs are the tricky part for him.
