Received the EAD yesterday, 5/7/2009. So almost exactly one week from the status change to "Card production ordered" to receiving the actual card.

Now we can get her SS# changed and hopefully get her a state issued ID card. I'm hoping SS# + EAD will be enough proof for the California DMV that she's here legally. Anyone know for sure?

I have been through this with my wife.

The key with our state is "Proof of legal presence in the USA."

The following satisfies that key:

•Valid foreign passport with a valid Record of Arrival/Departure (form I-94)

For my state (Michigan) you need a Social Security #, your passport, and 2 documents that prove your residence. One proof can be a letter that you received in your name to your California address and the other can be your spouses drivers license along with your marriage certificate (If you're married and your spouse has a state issued ID with address then it counts as a second proof of residence). Make sure he is there with you...

Are you saying that the more stringent Michigan state rules, apply to those of us in California too !??:)

For those of us who [do] live in CA, all you need is the passport with valid I-94 attached. They will then issue ID card with an expiration date, which matches that of the I-94.

I applied for state ID here in Florida..DMV just asked me my I-94 which was still 1 month valid when I applied,my passport, social security and marriage record..that's all and I got it already valid for 1 year from the date I applied.

Yup, California a EAD is proof of legal status, so looks like we're all set for a CA ID.

As to the question about Civil Surgeon in the US. I haven't. The stickied AOS thread says that as long as your interview is within 1 year of your overseas medical, you shouldn't have to. If the paperwork got lost or expires, you will be issued an RFE. So no RFE, no need to get it done. At worst when you go in to your interview they'll issue the RFE there. Or at least that's my understanding.

I'm kinda worried, as I'm sure my wife didn't complete her vaccinations. However the hospital didn't give her a copy of the paperwork they submitted to the embassy. Just a piece of paper saying everything was done. So I'm not 100% what she still needs to get shots for. But I think we're clear on that and it won't come up again until the time comes to lift the conditions on her green card.

Will know for sure in less than a month. ;-)

Since she went through Thailand on a K Visa I am assuming, she had all her vaccinations done. The embassy in Thailand requires it as part of the medical to get a K visa.

hi guys! i have been reading all along with this thread since it started and Im just wondering if all of you guys has visited a civil surgeon before you submitted your aos, ead, ap papers? because i didn't. right now, after the biometrics etc. i dont know what im expecting to get. an rfe, the ead or the approval?

i only did because i had my HPV vaccine once i got in the USA, otherwise i would have sent the embassy copy. however i sent it of to Dr Arnold to transcribe, they transfered the embassy's form over and were happy to accept a letter from my PCP saying he had administered the HPV shot. so if you do get a rfe re the vaccines i would use doctor arnold as they are quick.

Very strange, I can view the AOS online, but the EAD is not showing up??? My husband has done the biometrics and the case has been transferred, should I be concerned that the EAD is not showing up?

Don't worry about it. My AP was never on line and I got everything by mail!
