The only thing I know about this is what I hear on the news, it cost the tax payers $30,000 per year per person to lock up somebody, and our state prisons are way over crowded and putting a huge demand on our state budget. And also an increase in our tax burden that leads to a question.

Who exactly is being punished for these crimes against society?

Made the comment to my wife, maybe we should be naughty too, least that way we will be on the receiving end rather than on the paying end. Hell, let them all loose, if they come here, I will shoot them. Least I will have a couple of extra bucks. Why can't they pay their own way? Why me? Bad enough with education and Medicaid for kids I never had the fun of making. Not exactly the way I prefer on getting screwed.

if nothing else, there needs to be a decrese in convictions on drug related cases..taxes are fine..but to close several prisons for lack of criminals is a state surplus break

Already heard that violent and non-violent prisoners should be distinguished, and that the vast majority of our prisoners are in with drug related issues. And should be sent to a rehabilitation center rather than to prison. Like about 90% of them.

It should be further distinguished that you have those that are selling or pushing drugs that are the true culprits, and the victims of those drugs, especially the addictive kinds.

One of the worse places you can send your kid to, and required to do so by law, are those community type government owned buildings that are plastered with Drug Free Zone signs.

So, are you suggesting "RedLight" districts along the lines of those in Amsterdam, Hamburg, Mumbai, ...?

You can legally smoke marijuana in Mumbai and Hamburg?
