Anyone know anything about working with a I-94 card for 90 days

The last time I did this, my wife had to go down to the office and get a work permit, but now they don't allow that anymore.

I read that you need to go through New York to get the work permit stamp if you want to work right away.

But here is the thing, the Social Security website says you are authorized to work with just the I-94 card without any other permission for the 90 days that it's valid.

I never knew that, but I want to know if anyone has had any problems with any employers not accepting that.

It seems like everyone is going for the New York stamp or applying and paying the $340 and waiting, but the SS site says K1 visa can work with the I-94 card without any other authorization.

anyone know anything about this?

I don't think I am misunderstanding it, but if I am tell me. Here is the link http:/policy.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/links/0100203500

many people go through JFK... Nobody is paying the $340 for the 90 day authorization because the EAD will not be returned in time.

YMMV

After april the "EAD stamp" Will no longer be valid, the I-9 used by employer will tell the employer to require an EAD card or Green-card.

The rules have changed, Employers have a system they can use to confirm employment auth, this system only indicates employment auth if USCIS has issued an EAD or green-card.

NOTE: K-1 is not a work visa, it is a fiancee visa for entry to the USA and marriage, K-1 is "Work Auth" primarily to be able to get the SSN, some states are strict in their interpretation of a federal law that requires persons applying for a "license" to have SSN, this can cause a problem with marriage license if only one person has SSN and the other (the K-1 holder) does not.

As of last week, JFK is still giving the stamp without being asked and YES it is valid for work with an SSN. My wife applied for her SSN the day after she arrived and had her card in a week. She took a small job to help with learning English in a woman's clothing shop a few hours a week. She continued working after her I-94 expired and proudly annouced this at her AOS interview (without being asked...God love her) to which the response was....nothing. She was approved and got her green card.

This was supposed to end in February, it was extended to April (as noted by Yu and Dan) and yesterday I heard an unconfirmed rumor it was extended until August, but the last confirmed information I have is April.
