If you don't have any specific problems with the idea of moving elsewhere in the US (i.e. to NY or somewhere else in the north east with a more ... diverse... population), then maybe you should consider it. It might be nice in other ways too -- starting out together in a new place and discovering that place for yourselves together, making a new life, etc. Part of what I'm concerned with with my fiance' isn't that he will not be around other Albanians/Europeans -- there's a VERY large Albanian population in NYC, esp. in the Bronx and my particular area also has lots of Italian people/European immigrants -- but that he will come here and have to enter into my established, settled life in a place where I've always lived, etc. and work his way into MY existance, instead of us starting something new together. I'm sure we will work out our own personal niche together, but I'm still concerned.

Give him some more time to adjust -- if he still feels lonely and uncomfortable where you are now, maybe consider relocating, if at all feasible.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe moving out to the east coast will be in our future. I read your response about your friends and I understand what you are going through. I dealt with the same stuff from my closest friends but now that they have met him they think he is adorable and sweet and understand why I feel in love with him. Don't worry about these people. Just ignore them and walk away and if they are still like that after they meet him then they were never your true friends to start with.

Good luck! It might be fun to move to a new place anyway and start fresh together somewhere (hopefully not somewhere TOO far from your home now though!). I'm hoping my friends will have similar feelings once they meet my fiance'! It's really hard to go out with them many times and socialize because I know all the comments will start coming at one point or another. But I'm glad your friends like your husband now! :D They probably also feel silly for judging him without knowing him.

I'm going to come at this from a different angle... (as usual with me...)

I too have been frustrated at the lack of public transit, hubby swears we have it but I have yet to see it, the fact that we have to drive everywhere, that I sound different from everyone, that I can't find things I 'normally' cook with

Man, I hear you on that!!! I lived in saskatchewan, with cities but not cities like here and I still had better transportation service than I do here. I can count how many times I've seen a bus here on one hand since i've been here and it's been over a year. LOL and I'm learning what I can find here from home and what I can't ....
