American television channel host Josh Gates displays what is believed to be a 'Yeti' footprint to the media in Kathmandu .

The Yeti, or "Abominable Snowman," is a legendary figure in Tibetan culture described as a large gorilla-like creature that walks upright and lives in arctic climates. Similar creatures have been reported in Canada (where it is called "Sasquatch"), Russia and Mongolia ("Almas"), and the United States ("Bigfoot"), but convincing evidence of the existence of such animals has long escaped the most dedicated of searchers.

On February 28, 2009, naturalist Sir David Attenborough told British commentator Jonathan Ross that he finds supposed evidence of Yeti footprints at 19,000 feet above sea level in the Himalayas "baffling" and "convincing."1

Fast Facts

  1. 1951 discovery found at 19,000 feet around Mount Everest1
  2. Expedition led by Eric Shipton and Tom Boudillon1
  3. Shipton's team did not make the top of Everest1
  4. 2007 discovery found approximately 125 miles from Kathmandu
  5. Twice as large as a man's footprint
  6. Yeti estimated to be approximately 8 feet tall

Footprints of the Yeti

In 1951, a photograph of a mysterious footprint was taken by Eric Shipton, one of a team of mountaineers attempting to climb Mount Everest. Shipton and his fellow climbers claimed to have discovered the footprint at about 19,000 feet above sea level.1

The adventure series Destination Truth also claimed to have found Yeti footprints in the Himalayas.

Quote

"Very convincing footprints have been found at 19,000 feet. No one does that for a joke."—David Attenborough<a href="http://www.mahalo.com/Yeti_Footprints#guide_note-dm-0" title="">1

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The title is misleading. Attenborough doesn't say they exist and as he doesn't strike me as a particularly humerous bloke, I don't think his take on what people would and wouldn't do for a joke is all that helpful.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Oh come on...what other conclusion can you make from his statement? Don't be hating the Yeti...he is a person too you know.

That he doesn't know much about what motivates the 'joker' and his creativity. People have created some amazing hoaxes that have employed many hazardous and difficult means - this is no different :)

You'll have to listen to the interview. The mountain of evidence goes way beyond a mere footprint, but his argument is that suspecting someone pulling a prank at 19,000 is silly. There are hair samples, fecal matter, and DNA. It's best that you just start accepting your long distant cousin right now because he'll be over for Thanksgiving.

FP, I know, I get it, he doesn't think anyone would go to such lengths to pull a prank - but that is because he lacks the 'prank pulling' gene. People with this gene go to extraordinary lengths just to pull a prank, he is simply not the best person to judge the lengths a prank puller will go. The yeti will not be coming to dinner :)

I had a childhood dream of one day finding Bigfoot. I know he's out there...probably crying under a tree because he's never been invited over for Thanksgiving.
