What is in the packet 3 for Canada?

We just submitted our I-130 for my Canadian husband. I keep reading about this mysterious "packet 3". What is it? Is there anything that I can start getting now so that when the packet comes I can speed up the turnaround time?

P3 is for most consulates the information packet, it contains a list of required documents needed for the interview.

P4 it the invitation packet, this tends to contain information on where to do the required medical and vaccinations, and a letter indicating interview date, and invitation to the consulate.

Here is a link to what is in Packet 3 for Aussie DCFers http://canberra.usembassy.gov/consular/visas/iv/family.html

Correct me if I am wrong but I'd say you probably need the same (or similar) documents in Canada.

The main thing I'd start gathering would be I-864 supporting documents (i.e. past tax returns and documents for proving domicile) as well as any police certificates if your husband has lived in a different country for more than 12 months since turning 16. (I had to apply for a Japanese one and I knew their processing was SLOW.. I applied for it even before I lodged my I-130 and didn't receive it back until the day before my interview.. so make sure you allow time for that if needed.

I am Canadian and just got my packet 3 this month.

It outlined in a checklist format, all the documents you will need before they will schedule you for an interview...

This included, a police report, schedule a medical exam, long form birth certificates, divorce decrees etc... they advise that all docs need to be stamped/notarized by valid governing authorities.

I waited until I got the packet, and it only took me a week to collect everything. Thankfully here in Canada the turn around for things such as police reports are quick (for the standard type) and I was able to get a med appmnt within a week. I also used an xpress service on line to get my long form birth cert and it only took 5 bus days.

You have to make sure the Canadian passport is good for at least another year... if it expires less than 12 months, I would get a head start and get it renewed....

Hope that helps :)

I'm in a similar situation to the OP - filing DCF for a Canadian husband, only from Ottawa - and just got Packet 3 last week. However, it didn't have anything about the medical - I believe that for us comes later with the visa appointment letter. I agree though that the main thing is to get the police records checks done. Once you get packet 3, you return it signed to indicate you have all required documents and they say your visa interview should be 4-6 months later for Montreal. We're waiting on an English prc before we can continue. If you want I could scan the packet for you - haven't started filing it out yet.

Yes the IR1/CR1 would not have mentioned the medical as the checklist for IR visas is different from K visas.

Would be handy if you could scan it and post it here Elsoar, blocking out your personal info of course, then maybe we could add it to the Canada VJ Wiki!

Also, drop by the Canada forum! http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=93

Hi Everyone,

Attached please find the DCF Canada Packet 3, as well as the paper the Embassy gives you when you first file the I-130, in case that is helpful. I have reduced the file size to get these docs to upload, so if anyone can't read them and needs a higher resolution version just let me know.
