I have a few questions about the medical exams that are done for the consulate in Egypt. I hope someone can help us. :)

Thank you in advance for all your help!!!

1.) When do we have to go to the medical exam? How long does it take before my fiance can go get one done?

2.) What exactly do they test you for in a medical exam?

3.) Is it painful? Are there a lot of needles?

4.) How long do the results take? Do we find out the same day if he passed?

5.) Do we have to send the results to the embassy or do we just take them with us to the interview?

6.) How much does it cost?

7.) Do we have to wait for packet 3 before doing anything?

If Packet 3 is on the way to you, you can have the medical done now. My husband used Dr. Amr Maher. He is in Gleem. They usually tell you to call and make an appointment but most of the time the phone line is busy so we just showed up around 4pm. He will give a basic exam, checking eyes, ears, heart. He will also check to make sure that your shots are up to date. If you have not had all of your vaccines, then you will be required to have those shots before he will sign off on it. Don't know how much that costs because Ahmed was fine. Then he will refer you to have a chest x-ray done and also blood work to check for HIV and any other Sexually transmitted diseases. 2 separate locations. The chest xray can usually be picked up within 1 day and the blood work within 2 days. You go back get the results and take them BACK to Dr. Maher. He will review everything and give you the information in a Sealed envelope. You will include this envelope in your packet 3 that you send back to the consulate. He will tell you if everything is ok when you take all the results back to him. I really can't remember all the cost. I think the exam with Dr. Maher was about 100 LE. THe chest xray may have been about 70-80 LE and the blood work about 100 LE. This was last year.

Hope this helps.

My husband had his exam by Dr. Maher last spring. (Yes he's the only doc in Alex that does them)The cost was 100 LE, X-rays were also 100 LE, and the blood work was 150LE. They only stuck him once (but he says they took GALLONS of blood... tehehehehehehehe)

He did NOT ask him a single question about vaccinations, UNFORTUNATELY.... The instructions sent to Dr. Maher from the Embassy do not require him to do vaccines. (Or at least they didn't last spring) So we didn't learn of this requirement until my husband arrived here and we filed for AOS. He already had all of the vaccines in Egypt, but Dr. Maher did not document it (nor did he ask for records as a part of the exam) so he had to have them ALL here in the USA for a LOT more money!

If you can get Dr. Maher to include the vaccine record in a report it would be helpful to you later on. The required vaccines depend on age. Fortunately my husband only needed a few, and did the titer test to prove he had already had chicken pox (varicella).

I've heard rumors that a skin test for TB is now being required in some places... but don't know if Egypt is one of them. (x-ray is much more accurate!)

I don't think the medical exam is as painful as MANY other aspects of the Visa process...
