Hi

I'm just filling out my AP application, I am planning on returning to the UK for a week in November and then me and hubby are planning a trip over in May next year. I'll also probably do a week again next November alone.

Is the AP just for a certain timescale? Until I get my Green Card? I'm unsure how many trips I plan to make before this happens.

Would I be better off to say yes, it's for multiple trips and just listing my trip in November as the date of intended departure?

I'm all confused!

Thanks

Helen

If you get multiple you have more options, but if you get single then you don't. Seems clear cut to me..as you never know when you might need to get back to the UK on short notice for an emergency (I hope that doesn't happen tho!) - are there extra costs involved to get multiple AP doc?

AFAIK - Once you have GC then I'm pretty sure you don't need the AP doc - as you have adjusted status and are no longer conditional

We got 2 AP documents. I presume that is normal as we didn't ask for extra copies. We've not travelled on them though so I don't know if they keep one each time you go. If you do a search on VJ, there are plenty here who have used them and I'm sure the answer will pop up.

I would put the November travel date down and you should be good to go. And yes once you have the green card you no longer need AP.

I don't know for certain, but I the think you give border control one copy when you leave for the first time, and keep the other copy for subsequential visits.

But I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, since I don't have AP and therefore haven't used it.

The first time you travel on the AP take both copies with you. When you come back to the US they will stamp both copies, keep one, and give one back to you. You use the one that they gave back to you if you make any more trips during the year (validity of the AP) or until you get your green card which ever comes first.

On the AP application I believe I put down multiple for trips and TBD for the dates.

I applied for (and got granted within 10 days...) AP on the basis that 'I wanted the security of knowing that if something happened to anyone in my friends and family that I would have the freedon to travel to be with them. I received the 2 forms within 10 days, and travelled back home to nEngland for a holiday with my husband a week after I received the forms.

When I came back into Wasdhington DC after an hours wait (even though I was there first) and 2 incredibly rude immigration officers finally getting to me it took 5 seconds to stamp one form and give both back to me. But they were so so rude to everyone expecting us all to be illegal immigrants. I was so so angry and upset and completely cried my eyes out the second I got through the door past them. They treated us like we were cattle and used no civility whatsoever... as someone who has always held a responsible job and never been in ttrouble with the law or ever done anything illegal I was absolutely horrified by their behaviour, which I don't really want to go in to. It was 2 weeks ago and I am still considering making a complaint against them but suspect it on't do me any good. These men just play god, and the way they were treating some of the guys that didn't speak english was just beyond belief.

Anyway, sorry for going slightly off topic! :o) But for me, they stamped one but gave both back to me.. whether that was the correct procedure or not I do not know, and judging y those guys I wouldn't be surprised if it was wrong as they were clearly clueless on basic manners and how to treat a human being so probably clueless on procedure too....

ooh, and to answer your question... I applied for mutiple trips as you never know when you may need it. And it is my belief that the earlier the date of travel the quicker you get it, as I was shocked when I got mine through so fast! Unless they always come through in just over a week? Personally I was fully expecting to wait a few months for it as everything else with the process is so slow.

To answer your question, as everyone said, choose the multiple trips option. The AP is good for a year after issuance.

Our reasons for the AP stated that my wife (Canadian) has 50% custody of two children who will stay with her ex during the process. Because we are only a few hours drive from them, we want to be able to make frequent trips to maintain the relationships, maintain custody equality, as well as to minimize any additional emotional distress during the waiting period.

Apparently the immi officer don't think THAT is vaild enough reason to move it along, we are 2 days short of 60 days and still waiting.

Ok...probably a dumb question here but I'm gonna ask anyway:

To get multiple copies do you have to pay the application fee for each one? Or do you get to ask for more than one so that just in case you need to travel more than once before you get the magical GC?

I dont think there is extra charge for the multiple entries AP. I cannot remember. However, I applied for multiple entries, and got two copies. Also I just travelled (for work) out of the country, and came back using my AP.

The part I felt a little mistreated was actually in Italy at the airline counter, when the clerk thought I was trying to sneak into the US illegally (probably felt this way because I totally did not expect them to require anything). The airline checked my documentation, and let me by.

I arrived in Philly and I have to say it was a totally nice experience. Unlike Tinkerbelle, I was treated very nicely. The office in customs, just looked up my Alien Number in his computer, and then proceeded to put all my documentation in a red folder and sent me to another officer, who happened to be from Pittsburgh. So, while stamping and checking my paperwork, he kept asking me things about the the city. Then he asked me what I was doing in Italy, and when I said I was working, he asked what did I do, and whom did I work for. I replied and that was it.

He gave me back one of the documents, and kept the other one. He said I should SHOW the document the next time, but not turn it in. He also stamped my passport. The stamp says something like: Paroled until... 06/23/07 (which is a year from the date I used the AP).

Before I travelled I asked here for people to post there experience using the AP, so I knew what to expect. Most people's experiences were like mine...kinda uneventful.

If I were you, I'd apply for multiple entries and the cause of the trips could be just about anything. Family visits, doctor appointmens, work related trips, etc.

My AP was not granted quickly, and I was needing it due to work. Like everything, some people are luckier than others in this process.
