Deleted most of this post to save on HD space, frugal in that respect, but vehemently disagree with this author, he is taking away my right to pay a carbon tax, and I love to pay taxes. I also want to buy a hybrid car, but have to wait until they can develop a battery that can output at -35*F temperatures, otherwise, just hauling around a useless cake of ice and burning even more carbon.

Being a scientist have no Ethical code requirement by a professional organization. If you don't hold a NSPE license, it doesn't mean you cannot practice Engineering. Same with Chemisty, you don't have to be a member of the ASCE to prepare chemicals, etc...

(Oh and chemists favor science societies like ACS, not the one for chem engineers). Scientists and MDs have their own licensing and regulatory boards that oversee their performance. IRBs, Grant Review, Study Sessions, Departmental review, etc... state licensing for MDs... the list goes on.

Perhaps VW will also say that us 'arrogant humans' couldn't destroy planet earth either? And yet, we know we can.

Man has been changing mircro climates for many thousands of years, turning fertile land into desert for one.

Now, it may not be so obvious to everyone that a change in the global temp (that is the mean temp for the planet not some record temp high/low for a particular spot on the planet) will have far reaching and not exactly known consequences. Some may even feel that something that potentially could create great harm requires some less than conventional means to get the message across.

Does civil disobedience mean violence by the way? I wasn't aware that was the current definition.
