Oooh! Ive been to the Wye Marsh and St Marie! the Boardwalks there are awesome :) We also went to this house close to there that had all kinds of kittens available for adoption. I would have taken all of them home if I could!

That was the OSPCA, unfortunately it burned down a few years ago and it lost quite a few of the kittens, if you go there now you will see a kitten memorial and graveyard on the site. Its quite sad.

:(

I was born and raised in Owen Sound, ON... the Elephant's A$$hole: http://strangemaps.wordpress.com/2008/12/1...tario-elephant/

Apparently it also used to be known as "the Chicago of the North" :o This was due to it being a major shipping port, historically.

I moved to Windsor to go to the U there, then to a small town outside Sarnia called Corunna (completely surrounded by chemical plants!). I left there to move back to Windsor about 5 years ago. I now enjoy the privilege of living in the city with the highest unemployment rate in the country, and get to see such fun things as crack pipes and puddles of puke and/or blood on my walk to work :P

I'm the American, but I am the one who posts mostly, so I will answer for my hubby, the lovely Waterpupy.

He grew up in Kamloops BC. In his partying 20's, he spent some time living in Trail and Kelowna (as well as backpacking around other countries).

When I met him, he was living in Vancouver.

His oldest sister and her family live on Denman Island, one of the northern Gulf Islands. HIs parents moved there after they retired.

Cool info. about Denman: (stolen from wikipedia)

Denman and Hornby Islands are two outposts that have been described, with some justification, as the "undiscovered Gulf Islands." Big-name celebrities have recently bought property here, complementing a population made up of baby-boomers, artists, craftspeople and a laid-back (if wary) mishmash of alternative types.

Heheh cool! There's a lot of appreciation for the Midland, ON area in this thread, so I suppose I'll add to that. It is a really cute little town, isn't it? I went to high school there at St. Theresa's for one semester right before I moved to Ottawa, and I enjoyed it. My Dad lives in Balm Beach and my brother lives in Lafontaine, so I've still got a fond connection with the area, even though I don't visit very often.

I haven't been to Midland in quite literally decades, has it been built up like the rest of the province? Or has it tried to stay pretty much a small town?

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Wow who would have known that Midland would be so popular?? Its so weird how on this board I have found someone that went to the same highschool as me in North Bay and a whole bunch of people who have been to or have lived in Midland.

Holliday what year did you go to St. T's?? Lafontaine is beautiful! And I love Balm Beach. I worked at the BW Highland Inn for a few years while living in Midland. Its such an easy going town. I think thats why I miss it so much.

Reba... it still has a small town feel even though they've just go their own pack of mini big box stores. They have a walmart and a home depot now, but you walk downtown and it is still very much Midland.

Well I had to go look up these islands - they do look absolutely beautiful!

I went there for the 2nd semester of the 98/99 year (I was in grade 11). I enjoyed my time there. The people I met were very nice, and my teachers were great. I moved to Ottawa right after that, because I didn't like living out in the middle of nowhere (Balm Beach) with no mode of transportation.

Born: Calgary, Alberta

Raised: Shallow Lake, ON, a tiny village in the farmlands outside Owen Sound, ON.

Interesting facts about Shallow Lake: Our General Store has been there since forever, I swear. Seriously, I think it may be THE original General Store in this area. The village used to be all one farm, but the land was portioned off. I live in one of the first houses built here--it's suspected it may have been built as part of the farm. We used to be a HUGE brick manufacturing area because of the wetlands that drain the lake every summer.

And our most interesting fact: We used to have several mink ranches (I think they're all closed now). The ranches in the village are responsible for the development of several colours of mink including the "sable" coloured mink. (Which is not Sable, just kind of looks like it, I guess?)

March 13, 2009--Visa application handed to the post office.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

March 30, 2009--NOA1

August 12, 2009--Touched

September 1, 2009, received Package 1 from Montreal--but where is our NOA2???
