no one else from Manitoba yet.?? ..lol I am feeling lonely

I'm from Manitoba. Grew up on a farm but our "hometown" was called Glenora. Population 26.... yes 26 people not 26 hundred or thousand. I actually went to a small two room school house. It had no gym or library and the principal (one of the two teachers) actually had a hand held school bell that he rang to end end recess. The one room had grades 1-4 and the "big" room had grades 5-8. Some grades may only have one person in it and one year there was a grade that had nobody. We had a big class with 6 kids. After grade 8 we went to a "larger" town for highschool. The school is now closed but did survive to see it's 100th anniversary. The town itself is actually a neat and tidy little town and everyone takes much pride in it. It has one store called "the Mall" which is basically a general store. It also has a community hall and a very active curling club - which still uses natural ice and not an artifical plant.

So did I move to a bigger community when I moved to the US? Actually, NO! The place we live right now has a population of 12 full time residents. It's basically, a dumpy little North Dakota town that died years ago. Only thing remaining here is the bar - which is a dumpy hole in the wall but is very popular in the area.

Believe it or not, I've actually heard of Glenora. I love the idea of small-town living, but I don't think I could do it myself!

born in St thomas, Ontario

raised in Rodney, ON, population 1,100

not even a traffic light in the town, haha!

interesting fact - they claim they have the tiniest jail in north america!

The tiniest jail in North America is in Rodney, Ontario, near the southwestern Ontario city of London. Built in 1890 and now a tourist attraction, the 24.3 square metre jail had two cells.

Okay I'll talk about each town/city I have lived in...

Toronto.. I don't think an explanation is really needed, I grew up in a not so nice area called Regent Park and my mom went to UofT and worked her butt off to get us out of there.

North Bay.. my mom transferred to Nipissing university in North Bay. North Bay had the highest teenage pregancy rate per capita in Canada for many years, I think it has been beaten by Orillia though... or maybe some other place by now. My highschool had a daycare, in highschool you knew someone who had kid(s) or was about to have kids.

Barrie... I went to college here. Thats all.

Midland... its the home of the first European community in Ontario... the Jesuits came and created a home base, then the Iroquois pwned them. But now its a historical village called Sainte Marie Among the Hurons and I worked there for a few summers. It was grand. Midland is a tourist trap in the summers but its also a very picturesque and beautiful town and I really did love it there. It was fun.

Wow talking about these places is weird.

Sooooo true. Out of all my friends only 2 don't have kids yet. Most of their kids have disabilities, and a lot of them drank through their pregnancy. West Ferris still has a daycare. They have nothing better to do there I guess. *sigh* sooooo glad to be out of there lol.

Indeed, I worked in the longhouse. :D

Wye marsh is awesome!

When my son was three I took him there because we were going to see the trumpeter swans. Some of the walkways are boardwalks over swampy areas. I guess my son was amazed by this one area that probably looked like solid ground to him, but it was just swamp with so much green stuff on top. He bent over to touch it and PLOP fell right in to the swamp! I quickly grabbed his jacket and pulled him out and he was soaked and had all that green stuff all over him. Poor kid!

Hey Sprailenes- my hometown Bonnyville Alberta held the title for highest teen pregnancy rate per capita in Canada at one point too. So much so that they actually created a special school just for pregnant moms because the town was so "religious" and objected so much to them being at the regular middle schools. YUP...middle school. Most of them were around the age of 13ish! This was about 10 years or so ago, so who knows now! :)

Wow! I believe it. You spend 5 minutes in this town and you'll realize why the biggest dream of everyone who lives here is just to get out. Interestingly enough we have 2 big strip clubs here that have been busted for illegal prostitution in my recent memory. I hear we are also known for drugs too. Great place to spend 21 years of my life!! ahaha its not all bad, we do have a mall, and a walmart...

Born in Cape Breton, lived the majority of my life in a teeny weeny community called Pleasantville, Nova Scotia.

My brother played for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles for two seasons. In all my brothers hockey years, those were the two most enjoyable for me. I listened to every single game here from the US online through online radio :)

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Born in Montreal- lived in Ville D'anjou, Point aux Trembles and a town about an hour east of Montreal called Rawdon.

Moved to Sherwood Park, Alberta when I was 9.

I moved back to Montreal for a little while when I was 21 but I got homesick and went back to Alberta.

Grew up in a small town on the outskirts of the GTA (very close to Acton canadian_wife!) and lived in London, ON for 12 years. Now live north-east of TO in another small town to wait out the K1 Visa process. My US fiancee lives in Sarasota, FL where I am headed later this year if we don't encounter any major glitches in this process.
