I saw this topic somewhere else and thought we should have our own. List your Canadian hometown and perhaps an interesting fact about it.

I'm originally from Burlington, Ontario, however I've been living in Pitt Meadows, BC for most of my life so I'll go with that one.

Pitt Meadows is a small city in the Lower Mainland that is about 45 mins east of Vancouver. Happy Gilmore was filmed at one of our golf courses and NHL player Brendan Morrison (Anaheim Ducks) is from here.

Hay River, NWT. Something interesting................ HR sits on the Great Slave and the Hay River. It's prmary industry used to be commercial fishing however workers have been hard to come by since the increase of the diamond industry further up north.

In a town of 3000 people none of the buildings are over three stories except the 13 story highrise in town.

Edit: Hockey player Geoff Sanderson's hometown.

Kingston, Ontario - also known as the Limestone City because so many of the old buildings are built out of beautiful limestone blocks. The City is one of the oldest in Canada - it celebrated its Tercentenary (300 years) in 1973 and sits at the mouth of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. It was the site of the 1976 Sailing Olympics.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Regina, Saskathewan- known as the "Queen City." The only thing that popped into my head was Sandra Schmirler, although she was not born and raised in Regina, she was from a small town of Biggar and eventually moved to Regina. Her curling team won three Canadian curling championships, three world curling championships and a gold medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics. Unfortunately she passed away at the age of 36 of lung cancer, but her legacy lives on. The South East Leisure Centre in Regina was renamed the Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre as she had worked there before her passing. Speaking of which the Scott Tournament of Hearts has been on this weekend! Can't get my father away from the TV!

I grew up in Burlington, ON, and I still consider it my hometown, I guess. I don't go back there very often as all of my family and most of my friends have moved away from there, and every time I DO go back, I'm amazed by how different it is from when I left and how much it has grown... especially in the area north of the QEW, particularly in the east end. It's just weird to me now!

I've been living in Ottawa now for about 10 years, but it's never really felt as much like "home" to me, although I bet I'll feel differently about that after I move.

For some reason I can't think of anything particularly interesting about either city.

I was born in Toronto, and now reside in Richmond Hill :)

I'm curious where you all are headed, or relocated to in the US. My fiance resides in PA, close to DE

I'm having a lazy Sunday, so my brain is a little blah today, but I think Tim Horton resided much of his career in Toronto.... helped the Maple Leafs see a few Stanley Cups in the 60's (which was never to be seen again lol)...

I saw a documentary on him on the Bio channel the other day... towards the end of his career, he was playing for Pittsburgh, and would race his cars back and forth through NY and cross at Buffalo to come see his fam.... he actually died in a crash while intoxicated... I never knew that... i'm sure many people don't know that when they buy their Timmies coffee lol... kinda sad....

Anyways, i'm new on here and was introduced to this place by a girl I met at my medical lol.... go figure.... wish I found it sooner :)

I was born in Cambridge,Ontario but lived in Kitchener-Waterloo for 14 years.

-K-W has the 2nd largest Oktoberfest celebration, next to Munich. If you live in K-W, it is a part of your life as it is usually a 2 week event.

-Waterloo is home to Research in Motion, the company that invented the Blackberry. Many of my friends now work for the telecommunications company.

I lived in Ottawa for 5 years before I came here to New Jersey. Way too many interesting facts about the city so I will just say it was the most beautiful place to live.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I was born and raised in Mississauga, ON and still currently live there. I lived in Waterloo when I went to university.

Interesting fact... we have the same Mayor since for over 30 years, Hazel McCallion. And, it is the 6th most populous city in Canada. Oh, and we don't really have a main downtown strip... we have a mall instead.

I was actually born in Quebec (Lachine, now a part of Montreal) and lived there until I was 12 but I really 'grew up' in Kingston so that's why I consider Kingston my 'hometown'.
