My medical experience

Feb. 16, 1st day - I arrived at St. Lukes at 10.30 am. There was no line outside the building and I just showed the guard my appointment letter, my ID and the NVC letter. He gave me some forms to be filled up. After filling up the forms, I submitted them together with my passport to the reception and then they took my photo and instructed me to go to the 5th floor to pay the cashier. Cashier was closed so I just proceeded to have my height/weight taken and waited for 30 mins for the cashier to open.

After paying, I then proceeded to Laboratory for the urine pregnancy test and HIV test. After that, my xray was taken. I am surely impressed by their hi-tech xray machine.

Then, I was instructed to go to the 2nd floor for my immunization interview. I showed the Doctor my immunization record and she told me what shots I will be given.

Then I proceeded to the 5th floor where I had my eye examination and vital signs taken. They will then instruct you that you can take a break and come back after 30 minutes for your physical exam. Physical exam and interview took 5mins. The doctor interviewed me first, asked me some questions like: tattoo, ear piercings, and also asked me some questions about my fiancé. We just talked a little bit about him. Then she instructed me to go behind the curtain at her back and read the instruction posted on the wall. It is just about disrobing completely. She just checked my throat, palpated my breasts and my stomach, checked for any scars on my two wrists and then asked me to turn on my side and bend my knees to check my #######. And that’s it.

I just submitted my form to the 5th floor reception and they just gave me back my receipt and passport and instructed me to come back on the next day.

Out of St. Lukes by 3.30pm.

Feb. 17, 2nd day – Arrived at St. Lukes at 1pm. The guard inside the building will check your name on their system and will instruct you what floor you will proceed. He told me to go to the 2nd floor. 2nd floor is immunization floor. I just waited for my turn and the nurse asked me again some questions – allergy, etc. I asked her what shots she will give me and she said that I will be given 3 shots. I told her – “ Oh, so the Doctor didn’t accept my Td shot.” She asked to see my immunization record and told me that I will be given a Tdap. I asked her to explain the difference and she did. She gave me 3 shots and instructed me to wait at the ground floor for releasing. I waited for 30 mins and they just gave me back my vaccination form. Out of St. Lukes by 3.30 pm

My interview experience

Feb.23 – Arrived at the embassy at 5.45am. Waited for my turn to fall in line. The guard will announce if you can fall in line already. Saw some war veterans lining up for registration.

K1/K3 are on the same line and under the Immigrant visa line. The guard checked my appointment letter and my ID.

Inside the embassy, there is an usherette to assist you in checking the DS forms. I then proceeded to get my number after I finished checking my forms. Pay attention to the monitor because the numbers are flashed randomly.

I had my fingerprints done and then had my interview with the pre-screener. She just asked me the basic questions:

- my name and my fiance’s name

- have I traveled before and where, when, how long

- age difference. (She said another number for our age difference and I just corrected her)

- When was my fiance’s last visit and how long

- She asked for my Birth Certificate, NBI and CENOMAR

- She asked for the I-134 and the supporting documents. I gave her the 2008 Income tax return, Tax transcript, W2 and 5 months of paycheck stubs.

- She also asked for our photos, emails and remittances.

Pre-screener jotted down all my answers.

The consul asked me several questions and I answered all of them well. She asked me the ff:

- my name and my fiance’s name

- my age and his age

- my work and his work

- if I have traveled before, where and when and how long.

- How long my fiancé stayed in the Phils and how many times he visited me

She also leafed through our documents at the same time. I saw her looking closely at our financial documents and the photos I submitted.

Then she told me that everything looks great but there’s one question on our I-129F form that my fiancé did not answer. She told me that my fiancé needs to answer that question and he can just fax it to the embassy but also told me that the lady at the releasing window will explain it to me further. She’s a very nice consul. She made it sound like it’s not a major issue.

I went to the releasing window and the lady gave me the 3rd page and 2 other documents, one for instruction and the other one is a form that contains the consul signature. She explained all this to me very fast, so I read all the 3 pages again and went back to her and clarified to her some confusing instructions.

Feb. 26, Thursday at 12.20pm- received the 3rd page from my fiancé via FedEx.

At 1pm, I was at the embassy and I submitted the 3rd page of the I-129F together with the instruction . The lady who received my documents told me why I didn’t have it notarized. I just told her that they didn’t specifically instructed me to have it notarized and she just said ok.

Feb. 27, Friday at 830 am.- Awakened by a call from the embassy asking me for our Affidavit of support. I told the guy that I already submitted the original I-134 together with the supporting documents during my interview last Monday.

I will not go into details anymore since my fiancé has already posted another thread on this. He called the embassy and was able to talked with Grace and with the caseworker handling our case.

Feb. 27, Fri - 930am – Received another call from another case worker and we talked. I explained to him again that I had submitted our financial documents already.

Feb. 27, Fri 1pm. – Arrived at the embassy and told the guard that I need to submit a copy of our I-134. There was another line outside and the guard told me that they don’t accept submission of documents during Friday. One lady who was in line gave me an insulting laugh as if to tell me that I was ridiculous to go there on Friday. I ignored that lady and firmly told the guard that I need to go inside to submit my documents and told him the complete names of the persons whom I talked on the phone that morning. He let me in and told me to proceed to the Information counter.

The information officer told me the same thing that Window 17 is closed during Friday. I just explained to him again the same thing and told him that I will just submit it on Window X. He asked to see my documents and looked at my ID. Then, he just said, ok you can go inside now.

Feb.27, Friday –2pm- submitted the requested documents at 2pm. The receiving lady told me again that submission of documents is only from Mon-Thurs. I just told her the same thing. I felt tired explaining my situation to each one of them over and over again, but I just have to be assertive. So, she accepted my documents and stamped it. Then I just went home and called my fiancé.

Me and my fiancé are still waiting for my visa. We hope to receive it within the next 2 weeks. It was a challenging and difficult week for both of us but we find strength on each other. We believed that we were able to deal with the problems very well. I am proud of how we handled these challenges.

Now all we can do is wait and see…but we are prepared for what is going to happen next.

Best of luck to us and to the rest who are still on their visajourney. Just stay focus on your love with your partner and you will be able to overcome whatever challenges you will face.

~Baby :)
