What gets me the most is she doesn't seem to grasp that she did anything wrong at all -- says she'd take the officers' "advice" into consideration, but won't rule out doing it again if her kid gets hungry while she's driving.:angry:

Dayton Mother Caught Breast Feeding and Driving

Friday, February 27, 2009 – updated: 10:10 am EST February 28, 2009

KETTERING, Ohio -- A Dayton mother is facing charges for breast feeding her daughter while driving her other children to school.

Genine Compton was pulled over by Kettering police Thursday at Far Hills and Dorothy Lane while taking her other children to school.

Police say Comptom could have injured her child and others because she was breast feeding and talking on the cell phone while driving the vehicle.

Compton was issued citations for child endangering and violating the child restraint law. Compton told News Center 7 Friday, "If my child's hungry, I'm going to feed it."

Police say it is against the law to drive with a child in your lap. Children under 4 or 40 pounds must be properly restrained in a child safety seat.

In this case, officers said Compton had the child in the lap with the baby's head up against the steering wheel. They say there is not only the risk of a crash, but deployment of the airbag.

Compton said she will take the advice of the officers into consideration, but she may breast feed her baby while driving in the future if she feels that is is necessary.

She could face up to 180 days in jail and fines for the child endangering citation.

OMG - what a mother! And she's probably breastfeeding to give the baby the best start. Well it doesn't matter what start you give it if you kill it in a crash!!! I'm all for women being allowed to breastfeed wherever they want - I am currently nursing my 7-month old, but I don't think that include while I'm driving!

Breastfeeding while driving can suffocate the baby too. ####### is going on with some woman.

Exactly. I'm all for breastfeeding, but she says if she gets into a crash, the airbag will have the same effect on her that it would have on the baby lying in her lap with her head against the steering wheel. And that you can get hurt walking down the street, too. Her logic is astonishing.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

People do stupid things all the time.. like people talking on their phone.. or thinking "I'm ok to drive, I've only had a few" or speeding up as the light changes people do stupid things every day. For some of those people it's the last stupid thing they do before the turn into a report on someone’s desk and a figure in a spreadsheet. I agree if the baby is hungry feed it but not while your driving!

First thing I thought when I read that story and am sure some of you already know this or may have seen it but what might happen in an accident.. that baby get hit full force by the air bag, impacts into the mother killing the baby and possibly the mother too. That is assuming the mother thought ahead and had herself restrained if not then you could well have everything impacting the steering column or going external.

I'd rather not become a skid mark on the road and I wouldn't put my children (if I had any) or my animals into a position where they could become a projectile inside the cabin of my car. They need to fine her or take away her license and have her see some of the images of what happens when people talk on their phones or drink or do whatever it is they think they are safe doing in that nice new car. She should think about it like this.. that link might be disturbing to some! It downloads slowly but is worth watching!

Not defending this woman in any manner, but don't like the idea that our laws are going far beyond breaking any traffic regulations.

It doesn't surprise me. Most average intellects don't have any forethought. Or, maybe she was in a rush to bring her other kids to school and forgot about the car seat.

Stupidity happens. Sometime you get caught, sometimes you don't/
