Yardies: No impediment certificate

I just read the most recent reviews of the US Embassy in Kingston, and one person mentioned that it was okay that they didn't have the no impediment certificate.

In the packet 3, is it stated that you need to have this (expensive) certificate? I'd be happy to hear that it's optional.

If you do need it, did anyone get it from Montego Bay or Sav-la-mar, or did you have to go to Kingston?

We went to Sav the same place where you get birth certificates.

Nat, think about it - I know it's expensive, but the embassy says they want it - Whether they ask for it or not, wouldn't you rather have it with you and be prepared, or take a chance, not get it, and get the one interviewer who will ask you for it, and not have it?

I tried to tell him that he could've got the birth certificate from Sav, but he went through some people who got it from Kingston (took over a month). Where in Sav would you go?

Nat -- just gwaane ahead and get the non-impiedment certificate, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it (so my granny would say). My husband got his in mobay at the RGD office and it didn't take a week.

We just did this in Sav when I was there this last month. It was $5500 JA for regular service which is supposed to have the form ready within 7-10 working days (possibly $8000 for expedited but don't think that's necessary). He has to bring his original birth certificate and picture ID (I think....they'll tell you for sure....memory already fuzzy). I believe getting copies of birth certificates were $750 JA each and you (or he) could do it all in one trip. Just show up and let the woman at the desk know what services you need. The Registrar's office is near the courthouse but it's hard to explain how to get there. Check out the web site since it at least has the street address.

Thanks, Ells! I'd gone to that website a couple of days ago to look for their locations, but the map of the parishes didn't load. I emailed them (no response yet), but just figured something was wrong with the website.

But seeing your note made me realize that it must be working, so I tried from a different browser (I usually use Mozilla, but switched to Internet Explorer). Now I could see the map! Thanks for taking the extra step and providing me with this info. I'll call my SO about this now.
