There are so many phone cards coming out all the time...one will be good for a few months and then later for some reason service tends to go downhill (like connection-wise, length of talk lessens as the new card is in the market longer etc) I haven't used phone cards in awhile but just the today I bought a Hello Asia $5 and a new one called 365 New York. So far they have been good...the connection was fast.

It happens a lot of time.Sometimes you have to call customer service because you can't really make a call and you just bought the card! and then customer service will asked for the pin numbers and then walah,I was able to contact right away.

You may want to go to your local Best Buy and get a Magic Jack. Its been around for over a year now. If she has an internet connection in the Philippines its a great thing to use. My wife and I got one and sent it to her family in Manila and it works great. Its a small USB device that you plug into a USB port on a PC or Laptop and it has a phone jack connection on it where you can plug a phone into and call any place in the United States and Canada for 20.00 dollars a year, yes that 20.00 a year unlimited. It only cost 40.00 and comes with your first year of service. When we got it we activated it with a 702 area code from Las Vegas. Even if she goes to a internet cafe she may be able to use it there. Go to www.magicjack.com and you can read about it. Even if she doesnt have internet its only 1000 pesos a month, much less then paying for long distance phone calls

If you cant send it to her there is a place in Makati that is already selling Magic Jack, just do a google search for Magic Jack Makati Philippines. Im sure there are other places selling it also, but in the US I think its only at Best Buy

i wanted to get a magic jack when my mom came to visit so she can bring it home to my husband in the philippines...i know it costs 40$ for the magib jack itself and 20$ a year for unlimited calling but when we talked to a customer representative she said we have to get one maigic jack here for the united states and one in the philippines (total of 80$) and pay 20$ unlimited each year. is this true? or could i just buy one, get it registered here..get a 203 number like my cellphone and send it to the philippines and i can call then thru my cellphone and its free? no international rates?

Hi!

Have anyone here used phone cards on calling someone in the Philippines?

I need some suggestions on what phone card to used and see if it's cheaper to do so than using our landline. I'm calling my Mom in the Philippines from US every other day for 30 minutes each time. We are paying over $200 every month on the landline which includes other services but most of it is from my long distance calling. I am trying hard to save a bit from a bill but still be able to talk to my Mom regularly, so I wanted to try the option of using phone cards instead if it's worth it.

Hope anyone can help. Thanks! :)

Try at Noble.com the hello philippines phone card reloadable its cost $20 it last 6 hrs cellphone to cellphone to the philippines

You do not need 2 Magic Jacks because the MJ you send to the Philippines will have a local number for you so when you call it its a local call. The MJ creates a phone connection to plug a normal phone into. Then the person using the MJ can call the US and Canada. If the PC is always on creating a internet connection for the MJ then you will be able to pick up your normal phone and call it from the US anytime you want. They do have places in the Philippines already selling these so no need to send it when you can just have them look for it there.

Magic Jack sounds awesome. I am going to go buy one and take it to her next month.

Meanwhile for the time being, I use Yahoo Messenger (hours on end),

I use both Pennytalk.com and Noblecom.com when I just need to call. They are about 13censt/minute to land lines and 19cents/minute to cell phones. Pennytalk is my preference between the two. Auto reload etc. is available with both.

We tried Magic Jack (Butuan) and poor connections make it frustrating at times. Same situation with PinoyTawag which involves putting a sim chip in a cell phone. Cost is good at $40.00 for unlimited use. Service is great when you can connect. Rebtel has been the best performer for me.

I have played the calling card game and most of them suck. You get half of what is advertised due to the hidden fees. Let me save you time and money. Go to Pingo.com. The price per minute is what you pay period, lots of local access numbers and all of my calls have had good to excellent sound quality. I think PH is .16 cents per minute but you actually get that minute at that price. All the other cards that advertise .16 cents per minute ended up costing me .26 cents a minute. I could call her on my Verizon cell for much less than that. www.pingo.com

I have used Yahoo for calls but her internet is poor at best. In Manila that would be fine I believe.

My wifes mom and dad use the Globe IDD card 40 min. for 100 pesos. They call from Negros Oriental and the line is usually clear. We have used speedypin cards puchased online here from the states and the best rate is maybe 10 cents a minute and they are not as clear as the globe idd card.

This is what we did...

Bought a used laptop for Digna ($400usd) with a built in webcam. Pay 6.00 usd per month for her to have a USA number on Skype for her computer. For internet, we pay 25usd per month for Smartbro wireless.

Additionally, we bought a Netgear VOIP phone for 100usd. We also pay 6.00 usd per month for a USA number on skype and we use the same internect connection as above

She can call any USA number for .012 usd per minute.

I can call her USA number any time I want and for as long as we like for nothing.

Skype to Skype is free plus we have full video.
