Hi!

Have anyone here used phone cards on calling someone in the Philippines?

I need some suggestions on what phone card to used and see if it's cheaper to do so than using our landline. I'm calling my Mom in the Philippines from US every other day for 30 minutes each time. We are paying over $200 every month on the landline which includes other services but most of it is from my long distance calling. I am trying hard to save a bit from a bill but still be able to talk to my Mom regularly, so I wanted to try the option of using phone cards instead if it's worth it.

Hope anyone can help. Thanks! :)

hi, check this site: http://www.hellocallingcards.com/FromTo.asp they offer lots of phone card choices. Just check the review rating and make your choice. My personal choice is integrity phone card and I buy it directly from hellocallingcards.com. Have bought 2 cards so far and have been pretty satisfied with it.

Hope this helps.

Calls to the Philippines from the US are expensive even with phone cards, all the one I have used $5 will last approximately 30 minutes...or less

Even with SKYPE that requires a computer to make the phone call...it still approximate .26 cents a minutes.

And yes...if you call every day that will be approximately around that same amount....

After reality set in for me and my fiance, we decided that those money will be well spent on something else....

so now we text...that is around .06 cents per message and use Instant messenger to chat few times a week.

Phone calls are still used but maybe once ever 2 weeks...

Hello!

Just a suggestion, I am using the Sarimanok card of ABS CBN. I think they charge me 18 cents per minute if I'm not mistaken and 11 cents if there's an occasion. Just inquire on their website and call their 1-800 number. I'm using their service for almost 19 months already. My monthly usage is $25/month calling my kids in the Philippines.

my husband used different kind of phonecard...sa una malinaw pero kapag inabot na ng ilang months nalabo kaya paiba iba din sya ng card na gmit it cost 5 dollars for 25-30 mins.

so ako nalang minsan d2 sa pinas ang natawag... im using GLobe power of 1. only P100.00 for 41 mins. hehehhee

Bad thing about phone cards is you don't have valid proof who you called. Heck you can't even prove someone didn't give you a pile of them for the interview. Best to set up a long distance carrier and make short daily calls "for the record" and communicate with cards or online chats the remainder of the time.

When my wife had her interview the CO only looked a our pictures and a stack of AT+T monthly phone records! Didn't check emails and chat records at all.

We had LOTS of phone cards but didn't even submit them!

Time to teach mom how to use the internet cafe with YM phone calls - computer to computer with web cam or do the same wiht skype. Now the bill drops to the cost of internet cafe which is usually <100p/hour. Usually they can show her how in the internet cafe as long as you can txt her your ID to be contacted one. We have used that exclusively for the past 10 months and it paid to actually just get Trisha a laptop and DSL line at home. Now we can have chats for hours on end.

Love forever,

If your cost is $200 every month , why dont you invite your mom to the US. B1/B2 visa could stay 6 months here. If you sum up your phone bill for 6 months, you already have a round trip ticket for your mom with pocket money.

I use phonecards from Chinese /Mexican stores to call my family in Davao. If you are calling them regularly and spend hundreds of $$$$ on your phone bills for long distance calls, I guess its better to buy them a computer and get internet and pay less than a thousand pesos for the monthly bill plus you see your family through webcam.

You may want to go to your local Best Buy and get a Magic Jack. Its been around for over a year now. If she has an internet connection in the Philippines its a great thing to use. My wife and I got one and sent it to her family in Manila and it works great. Its a small USB device that you plug into a USB port on a PC or Laptop and it has a phone jack connection on it where you can plug a phone into and call any place in the United States and Canada for 20.00 dollars a year, yes that 20.00 a year unlimited. It only cost 40.00 and comes with your first year of service. When we got it we activated it with a 702 area code from Las Vegas. Even if she goes to a internet cafe she may be able to use it there. Go to www.magicjack.com and you can read about it. Even if she doesnt have internet its only 1000 pesos a month, much less then paying for long distance phone calls

If you cant send it to her there is a place in Makati that is already selling Magic Jack, just do a google search for Magic Jack Makati Philippines. Im sure there are other places selling it also, but in the US I think its only at Best Buy

There are so many phone cards coming out all the time...one will be good for a few months and then later for some reason service tends to go downhill (like connection-wise, length of talk lessens as the new card is in the market longer etc) I haven't used phone cards in awhile but just the today I bought a Hello Asia $5 and a new one called 365 New York. So far they have been good...the connection was fast.
