AOS interviewer took EAD-card

When my AOS interview was approved (Feb 13th) the interviewer took all my previous immigration documents, even my EAD-card. I didn't think much about it then since I was gonna get a Green Card instead.

It's so difficult to get a job right now so while I had my work permit I was sending out job application left and right. And then yesterday I got a call from a clothing store that I sent an application to sometime in January. They want to interview me on Monday, but I haven't received my Green Card yet. :(

Like I said my interview was on Friday, Feb 13th.

I got the Welcome Letter last Saturday (Feb 21st).

I saw that another VJ'er who had his/her interview the same day as me received his/her Green Card yesterday.

Is there anyway I can estimate when I will get my green card?

Could I bring the Welcome Letter to the interview just to prove that the Green Card is on it's way?

I need this job so bad!

Sincerely,

Jon & Jess

I assume your social security card has the "valid for employment with authorization" on it. Most employers won't notice that.

I'd bring the letter along with a drivers license and social security card. Technically you don't meet the I-9 requirements w/o the green card. Depends on who is collecting the new hire forms.

Best of luck.

I've been out of the HR hiring world a while, but normally the steps are the same.

When you apply for a job (online or in paper) you indicate how you're legally eligible for the position (are you a usc, visa holder, etc).

Employer reviews application, and if you meet the legal criteria, you are given interview.

When you go for the interview, that's all you're going for, unless you're asked ahead of time to bring specific paperwork. For example, if you're a nurse, employer might ask you to bring your license or any advance certifications to the interview. But again, never saw people being asked to bring proof or their legal ability to work in the usa....

Once you're offered the position, then you're asked to bring in your paperwork, such as social security number, driver's license, or whaterver. That's when people that had a work permit, were asked to show it so we could make copies....

So if you're going to the interview, then worry about that first, not about bringing proof of how you're eligible for the position, unless you're asked to bring specific documentation for the interview.

If you're hired, then talk to the company's hr and they will advise you as to what to do.
