SS card

I arrived in the US on a K1 visa, and applied for my SSN card shortly after I arrived. On my SS card it says " valid for work only with DHS authorization". Now I received my GC, so, do I need to update the SS card? if so, how do I do that? Do I need to fill out a form?

Can I make a phone call instead, or do I need to go to the SS office in person? Would I need to bring any materials to their office?

Any deadline for this update?

hi drl! go to the neareast social security office in your area and tell them that you will need to remove the conditions on your SSN card. bring your Permanent Resident Card, Marriage Cert and Passport.

yeah you have to bring your GC or temp i551. and you actually have to fill out the form as though you were filing for a replacement card.

Do we need to fill out a form when we remove that condition on the SS card or just go into the office to show my GC and other materials? And, if we need to fill out a form, is it the same SS-5 form that we filled out originally to get the SS card?

Claudeth has had her GC for over three years not and we still haven't gone back to get that work authorization off her card

just got my gc and my husband doesnt have any more days off until may of this yr, if i get a job, would it be an issue that there is a note on the SS card even though GC is here?

No, you cannot do this over the phone, they need to see your green card and other ID's before submitting a new application. You have to go to your SS office. Also, its not just about getting the wordings remove from the card, you must notify SSA of your change in immigration status.

We had to do the same thing just last week, but unfortunately we were told that DHS still has the maiden name and not married name on their database (go figure), so we have to wait until verification from DHS to receive the new SS card.

oh ok, well we will work on my license 1st then LOL! once I am driving then I can just drive myself down to the SSA office to get it changed. theres no other way we can deal with it other than this way. I dont want my husband to lose his job calling in at work esp with the economy the way it is now, people are always looking for any reason to cut jobs
