Eastwood thinks political correctness has made society humourless

London, February 27 (ANI): Acting legend Clint Eastwood , 79, apparently believes that political correctness has rendered modern society humourless, for he accuses younger generations of spending too much time trying to avoid being offensive.

The Dirty Harry star insists that he should be able to tell harmless jokes about nationality without fearing that people may brand him "a racist".

"People have lost their sense of humour. In former times we constantly made jokes about different races. You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth or you will be insulted as a racist," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

"I find that ridiculous. In those earlier days every friendly clique had a 'Sam the Jew' or 'Jose the Mexican' - but we didn't think anything of it or have a racist thought. It was just normal that we made jokes based on our nationality or ethnicity. That was never a problem. I don't want to be politically correct.

We're all spending too much time and energy trying to be politically correct about everything," he added.

He's right.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I agree.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Gran Torino was a GREAT movie. Don't see it if words offend you!

Before I went to see Gran Torino I read an editorial about how there was still one word Clint wasn't allowed to use in the film. I went to see the film, and it of course, was not in there.

A "substitute" word was used and the author of the editorial (can't remember which guy it was... wanna say he was from VA somewhere) was making the point that even though we've come a long way with PC bullcrap, it was a shame that we couldn't use certain words "in good faith" like they (he, Clint, those of the "older" generations) used to.

He said something to the effect of, "There was a time in America when folks were able to use certain words for comedy, but those times are long gone, and that's too bad because it didn't divide us, it helped us to poke fun at ourselves instead of being all offended all the time. It's was a relief to laugh, not the burden that it's become today to always be on edge, ready to call out someone for being offensive simply because they used a certain word."

The sad fact is when you talk to old people (I mean like the WWII generation) they still use words like that and it doesn't mean squat to them. Today, we hear something even remotely close to resembling any of the "flag words" and everyone is instantly stressed-out by the "perception of possible offense." Maybe those old folks did have it right. At least they weren't always on edge about the "possiblity" of being offended.

Come on....it's seems like a lot of whining over nothing. You have the freedom to say whatever the hell you want. If Clint is complaining that he can't say certain words in his movies, he should direct his frustration with the his producers - they're the ones who are telling him what he can or can't put in his films.

Clint is exactly right! Go see Gran Tourino! It's a great movie with a refreshing break from the PC BS. It left me in tears from laughing! :crying::lol:

It was great, I hope we can see more films like this in Hollywood and get past all the PC nonsense.

Yep. I also hope that Hollywood pitches in to help us get past our spelling errors when spelling the movies we like. If not maybe Bollywood can assist.

I was reading the list and came across this one - ####### Blacks Probably refers to the Portuguese word for slave pens or barracks "baracoons". Could also have meaning as a shortening of "raccoon", as raccoons have a tendency to steal.

I started a thread here recently that had to do with this word ####### (which everybody loved, I could tell cause I have espn) so when I came across it it caught my eye. Why do they assume that blacks steal? When I was reading up on this to as why the term ####### came about, I came across things like there both dark and hard to see at night.
