French, Danish and UK embassies attacked in Iran

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Protesters hurled petrol bombs at the French embassy in Tehran and threw stones at the Danish and British missions on Friday, despite calls by a senior cleric to stop attacks over cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad.

Reuters witnesses said a crowd of about 70 protesters gathered in front of the French embassy chanting "Death to France" and "Death to America". The crowd threw stones and at least three petrol bombs at the embassy, they said.

Earlier on Friday, a Reuters photographer saw a crowd of about 200 people hurl stones at the Danish embassy, which is surrounded by a high wall. Dozens of police prevented the protesters from trying to get into the compound.

I probably shouldn't be worried about it but this all makes me a bit wary, because Sujeet is going to India next week to visit home for 2 weeks...his stop over is in Amsterdam, I guess things are ok there and even if not, I guess it would not effect the airport?(nice run on sentence!) It's just a lil scary when tensions are high in certain places and your spouse is going to travel across to the other side of the world.

I probably shouldn't be worried about it but this all makes me a bit wary, because Sujeet is going to India next week to visit home for 2 weeks...his stop over is in Amsterdam, I guess things are ok there and even if not, I guess it would not effect the airport?(nice run on sentence!) It's just a lil scary when tensions are high in certain places and your spouse is going to travel across to the other side of the world.

He'll be fine in Amsterdam. And in India, he'll know when a riot is coming, believe me. Everyone knows. You have people in the street saying "bhago, danga hone wala hai", as in get the hell out, a riots about to start. This sh!t is never spontaneous there, its always orchestrated and people know.

When me and my dad were in India, while in Agra I guess a riot broke out a couple miles from where we were staying in a hotel between fundamentalist Hindus and Muslims...Sujeet told my dad the next day but didn't tell me until we left Agra....he didn't want me to freak out.

Yup. The "war" between the believers in secular democracy and Islamic theocracy started a long time ago. The Bushbots would like to say it started on September 11 2001, but I really think it goes much farther back than that. The Michael Moore zombies on FR might want to suggest Bush is at fault for pissing the Muslim world off. I'd submit to them that the Muslim world was pissed off well before Bush ever gave up alcohol and started dreaming of being President.

You got that right. All this stupid rioting has as much to do with these little cartoons (most of the rioters, I assure you, never saw them to begin with) as the stupid war in Iraq with 9/11. Absolutely nuttin'.
