Why is it a bad idea for the USC spouse to go to the interview?

A US citizen will never be denied entry to a US Embassy in the world ..... Where have you been? Try getting into the Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, with out a reason. Social Security, IRS question, only during a set time(couple of hours a day) Other wise, forget about your US Citizenship helping. It ain't gonna happen !!!!

Generally speaking, I would think it's a great idea for the USC to go to the interview like everybody said.

I guess there can be exceptions though like if consulate asks for something that the USC has to be in US to get, such as a co-sponsor, proof of domicile, etc. Not sure if it has really happened though.

I have been reading a few people saying how its a bad idea for the USC spouse to go to the interview?

I thought that would make it look better?

He is really hoping to come to mine and be here for it

If you are not doing a DCF it is never a bad idea for the USC spouse to attend the interview. A US citizen cannot be denied access to an US embassy or consulate anywhere in the world, the Visa applicant is merely invited there as a guest and has no right to enter otherwise. There may be embassy specific procedures regarding the actual interview but the the mere fact that he/she is there gives a great deal of legitimany to the relationship as well as allowing your USC spouse to most effectively deal with any problems that may come up.

It is not necessary but it is never a bad idea.

The US Consulate in Albania has US citizen hours. You cannot enter outside those hours nor will they take your calls outside the time frame. I went early one day for the citizen hours (M-Th 2-4 I think) and have to wait in the ally. The guards will tell you come back because you can't go inside yet. Many Albanians having interviews have left their SO outside and taken the SO's passport with them to the interview to prove the "support" of their USC SO

I wish I could be there... :crying: Unfortunately I can't leave my work now until the semester is over(May) and if I were to buy a ticket it would cost $$$ and money is definitely an issue - still a lot of people get approved if the USC spouse isn't there and I am going to fax the embassy beforehand - Nepal is not the cheapest country to fly to and I am sure the CO will not use it against us.

I think this is the thread which has led to this confusion

See third post down.

I'm not sure if this is specific to that consulate or not. But it seems very odd and I haven't heard of anyone else being told the same thing

I really really want to go to the interview and fly back with Gustavo but I just don't know if I'm going to be able to swing it. I just started a new job this week and I'm pretty broke, so I just don't know what to do!

Well I NEVER think its a bad idea to show up.....Some embassys, however, REQUIRE the fiance to attend or they will NOT give the VISA. I have heard things about the embassy in the Dominican Republic and from what I heard....you MUST ATTEND the interview with your fiance/spouse or they WILL NOT give the VISA. So, first, I would say if you can go then GO!!....if you cannot go then find out if you HAVE to be there.

well in my opinion. it does help generally other cases it doesnt matter. But it can be a double edged sword. If your spouse is question and for some reason gives conflicting statements for whatever reason then that could place doubt on the validity of the relationship. Thats the only thing i can think of that can be harmful...
