For everyone who has had an interview at the embassy in Lima, Peru, I am wondering how long it takes between the interview and to receive your visa? I need to purchase some plane tickets and wondering how long it generally takes to get the visa and passport back.

2008-07-26 : I-130 Sent

2009-04-02 : Interview at Embassy in Lima, Peru Approved

2009-04-08 : POE Atlanta (256 days from sending I-130)

USCIS *Removal of Conditions*

2011-02-28 : Mailed I-751

2011-03-02 : USPS Delivery Confirmation

2011-03-10 : Check Cashed

2011-03-11 : Touched

2011-03-25 : USCIS confirmed they did not mail NOA 1, given case number

2011-04-05 : Infopass appointment passport stamped with I-551

2011-04-19 : Walk in Biometrics completed (2 weeks early)

2011-05-03 : Biometrics appointment (3 year anniversary)

Wait to hear from others who have dealt with Lima, but I would avoid purchasing tickets to the U.S. for the foreign partner until the visa is IN HAND. It may not be issued at all, or there may be delays with the printing equipment, etc. Keep these possibilities in mind.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We had our interview on a Monday, got approved and picked up the Visa's at the Lima DHL office on Wednesday afternoon and left that Wednesday night. That was cutting it pretty close, it really just depends on how confident you are that you have all of your paperwork together, if something comes up just be prepared to change your tickets and pay the fee for doing so. Good luck with everything. :thumbs:

I have read most of the embassy reviews. But does anyone one have any tips for me. Anything would be appreciated.

It just took Anita a few days to have the Visa mailed to her. She told me the interview process was really simple and qiuck. I think she was in the embassy less than 40 minutes. They didn't ask for pictures, letters, e-mails, or anything other than what was in the packet # 3. Make sure you have your papers in order and arrive early. Good luck :) Also, I didn't attend the interview like is highly suggested, but I had been to Peru a few weeks earlier. My advice would be to relax and stay organized. No worries.

My interview was on a Thursday and the Visa was ready to pick up the following Tuesday. Hubby came with me to the interview.

I have read that there is a packet 3 and 4 but what is packet 1 and 2? Do you need to bring original documents to the interview. For example wedding certificate and birth certificate? I gave the originals to the NVC and was wondering if I needed to get more originals before the interview? Also, when should the medical examine be scheduled?
