Eeek these forms are horrid!!

Some questions....

On the I-130 it asks for the USCIS office I will apply for permanent residence- but i dont know. I live in Las Vegas, and have been on the USCIS check office site but am I right in thinking you have a choice where to file to some extent? It says theres an office on Las Vegas- but havent heard of this anywhere else, and also the one Laguna Niguel in CA- where it says most people file. I dont know what to put. Does it make a difference where you file?

Also, on the I-485 where it asks for application type- Im not sure where I fit. Im applying for AOS from a B-1 visitors visa. Should I put it in the other basis of eligibility section?

Thanks :D

I put down the district office in California that serves my county. According to the USCIS website, there is a Las Vegas office that serves four counties (which I assume includes the county Las Vegas is in), so I would put that down.

For the application type, if you're filing the I-130, you would be an (a).

Would I really be an (a)? So I guess the immigrant visa number would be the one on my B-1. That makes sense. It says to attach a copy of the approval notice- does this mean a copy of my visa?

Yes - you should mark (a)

No - this is not true. You don't need to attach your visa, because B-1 is not your immigrant visa.

"I am applying for an adjustment to permanent resident status because:

(a) an immigrant petition giving me an immediately available immigrant visa number has been approved. (Attach a copy of the approval notice, or a relative, special immigrant juvenile orspecial immigrant military visa petition filed with this application that will give you an immediately available visa number, if approved.)

You file I-130 with I-485 concurently - so it gives you visa number if aproved.

Please consider checking the AOS Guide more thoroughly, and/or consulting with an immigration attorney before sending your paperwork in. You've got a couple of misunderstandings that could hinder your case.

In fact, if you entered on a B visa (how did you get one from the UK?) and are adjusting status, you should *stongly* consider meeting with an attorney to go over the fact of *your* case in private.
