Airbags don't have the best history, killed just about as many kids wearing a seat belt as lives saved from adults refusing to wear a seat belt. Airbags are considered supplement, have a friend with severe neck damage, a short guy where his airbag smashed him in the head with a minor fender bender.

Statistically, with seat belts and airbags, the number of deaths and injuries, have not shown significant reductions since their introduction, but better wear your seat belts, can be fined 200 bucks in my state if you don't. Plus many new cars have a spy box that records whether you were wearing your belt or not.

When I started flying, was my first introduction to a seat belt, so put one in my car, buddies thought it was cool, you certainly need a belt in a car far more than you do in a plane. So help to keep you behind the wheel when doing violent maneuvers.

With these complicated seat belts for babies, some have been burnt alive when a tailgate type accident blew the gas tank, parents could not get them out.

To me, the worse but most popular vehicle with kids is a mini-van, one little dent on those large sliding doors, and you cannot open the damn things. And the bucket seats are so tall in the front, can't even crawl over them. Was playing with the child safety locks on the back door of my Caddy, I couldn't get out! But was barely able to crawl over the tall bucket seats, to leave from the front door. Safety is more political than common sense, a lot more thought has to be given to getting out of a burning vehicle or one that ended up in a river.

Nano's no worse safetywise than the existing autorickshaws (which it coincidentally matches in top speed and acceleration) and it has the additional feature of rear doors over those...so "no worries".

The statistics and ER doctors disagree with you. I still remember a cop telling us as kids that he rarely had to unbuckle a corpse from a crash scene but saw a lot of dead people who weren't wearing seat belts.

My question is: did people die more in car accidents prior to the invention of air bags? Prior to 3-point seatbelts? I still remember the lap seatbelt where you'd still lunge forward if in a crash.
