How do you write numbers one and seven?

Just a few days ago, I discovered that my number one that I have used for over 25 years is actually American seven. My letter "I" is American one.

Did you have similar discoveries? Just curious...

I write one l, just a single line, and seven 7, no line through it!

I also don't cross my Z's. I interchange 2 and the two that curls like a pretzel...any other way to describe that???

I learned to slash the 7, the Z and the 0 from my COBOL programming years using coding sheets

This caused several problems here because our address has several 1's in it. My husband had to learn that no one understands his way of writing '1'. Several times in frustration saying 'But it looks like a seven. They don't get that!'. He eventually learned.

That's funny... must be something particular to Germans, because my SO does the same thing with his 1's and also I've had to tell him it looks like a 7.

Yanks don't have too much trouble understanding "zed", especially since NAFTA implementation, as that pronunciation is also used by their northern neighbours (Canucks).

BTW, "209" can be said two-oh-nine.

But I found I got much grief for:

• using British spelling for data-field names ("NeighbourhoodType")
• using expiry instead of expiration

I decided to play safe. When I write 1 for SSN and other important stuff, I will make sure it looks like "l".

I came across this too. Americans are number-lazy

and what about the n and m?? n in cursive is TWO loops, m THREE loops!
