Hello all,

I has a question regarding I-134 question 7. Around May last year I changed jobs, went from employee to consultant. As of right now I'm doing consulting on my own, but my last tax filing was while under being an employee. How should I go on about Type of Business and Name of Concern? Something along the lines of Consultant, and name of my client or should I use my previous job title and company?

Another thing is since I live in Puerto Rico and we don't or are not required to submit federal tax forms. I think I need to translate our tax form or will my previous W2 suffice? The W2's are in english so I don't see any problems there. As for the 125% poverty line I'm good in that respect, so I don't think I might need any co-sponsor or more information. What else could or should I have at the ready just to be safe?

Thanks in advance!

When you complete the I-134, you are doing TWO things, a statement of CURRENT income and attaching a previous year's income tax form. The two do not necessarily coincide, as last year can be very different from today, as you see.

Your correct answer is the "I am employed as "self employed" with ______________ company (name of YOUR company or NA, NOT the anme of your clients) and derive an annual income of ______________. To determine this, take your income to date in 2009 divide by the number of months used in the calculation and multiply the result by 12. This is (or should be) your verifiable income. You can then verify this with supporting bank statements showing deposits to your PERSONAL (not business) bank account. Attach your previous year's tax return. The previous year return should have all schedules and forms attached. The money you derive from your consulting business is that which is deposited to your personal account and claimed as net profit on schedule C, NOT gross revenues of the business.

Anything presented in any language other than English, must be translated.

You are almost there and now you have to deal with the embassy. This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

YMMV
