POE Question...

Alright... so in Albania, there are stores that sell movies that are clearly ripped- the stores are like Blockbuster, but they are burned movies. My husband has a ton of them, and it'd be great if he could bring them with him, as they have subtitles in his native language. My question is, would this be a problem at the POE? I assume his bags will be searched. Would this be a problem, even though it isn't illegal in his country??

I'm probably just going to tell him to forget it, but perhaps I'm being too paranoid.

What do you guys think?

Probably best for him not to bring them, you don't want to give them any reason for detaining him. You want him to have the least problems at the POE.

even if it is not illegal in his country it is in the US and that's where he will be coming so best not to provoke customs.

They took my oranges away, they were oranges, legal, yummy and to be eaten by me and they still took them away. He'd better leave the movies, he could always download them off the internet and nowadays you can find subtitles in any language.

What do you guys think?

FYI, Albania does not have copyright laws so they don't have distrubution of any films (on DVDs) so no legal DVDs are sold in Albania. If he puts them in a big DVD/CD binder, no one will look. I bring DVDs in and out of Albania all the time. The photo copied covers are the give away so get rid of them.

I had a friend that got stopped going out of Hong Kong with illegeal DVDs and the official just winked at her and let her keep the DVDs.

Just remined him he can't take a single lek (Albanian currency) with him as he leaves the country!!

It is not worth it, dont give CBP/Immigration a reason to deny him entry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me on this one, I know from first hand on CBP.

Thanks all for replying... I'm going to tell him not to. I'll bring them back in the future in my checked bags.

I appreciate your input! I doubt anything would happen, but I would just want to die if I told him it was ok and then something happened- over stupid Harold and Kumar!!! =)
