Hey all, I am writing my statement on how we met and wanted to include when and where we got engaged. I met my girl and had a vacation together for 2 and a half weeks and had a great time...but at the time we were not sure about what we would do next and how would be the best way to stay together. Anyways, we decided that we would go through the K1 visa and get married. My question is this...iwould it pose a problem (possible RFE or denial) if I stated that I proposed to her over the phone?? I know its not exactly the best way, and well I could just tell them I proposed to her in person during the trip. What do you all think??? Just confused on how I should put down that I proposed to her..thanks for the help!

7/2/10- NOA1

2/9/11- NOA2 (transferred to Texas)

NVC

2/28/11- case number received

3/2/11- Paid AOS bill

3/5/11- Paid IV bill

3/12/11- expedite to Bogota consulate approved!!!

3/14/11- left NVC to Bogota for further processing

3/17/11- received by Bogota, emailed consulate and was told to send DS-230 and DS-2100 (packet 3)

3/18/11- packet 3 emailed to Bogota consulate, email confirmation on March 23

Keep the faith, everything works out for the very best

Tell the truth. For immigration purposes, "engagement" simply means you have mutual intent to marry. You could have proposed in a singing telegram for all they care, as long as you are both free to marry and have been together in person sometime during the two years prior to filing the petition.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

This information is not necessary. I never formally proposed either. We just started talking about it. I never even asked her to marry me, because I already knew what her answer would be. Just give a brief statement of how you met.

 Shay and I already had a 2 year online romance before he came to visit me in Oz .... we had been discussing getting married for at least a 1.5years by then, we knew we got on exceptionally well and had a lot in common but it all depended on how we got on in person ... so he came to visit we were together 5 weeks and a couple days before he left he turn to me all shy, embarrassed like and said " So.. are you still interested in getting married to a rude, loud abnoxious yank?' ... Poor thing was beet red!

But honestly they dont care how you proposed, they are more interested in the form I-129F, Fiance letter of Intent (you can find a sample http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;page=examples ) and the supporting evidence ...

hi...i would suggest that the time u guys talked about filing for K1 visa would be ur date of engagement. Since, "technically" u guys already planned to be together and be married soon...It was not a formal engagement though with ring and proposing on ur knees...but the intention was there... So, that's what u put in your story which was the truth anyways... And to make u feel better... I had my interview last feb. 24..I was never asked about my engagement... even if im ready with all the proofs, like the engagement ring, the receipts, pictures and congratulatory notes from family and friends...i even included my friendster comments. But those stuff stayed in my envelope. It may be different from others, k? So, I suggest you bring all the possible proofs and documents that they might ask to prevent any delays. I will post my complete experience during my interview and time line soon... I want to make sure I already have my visa on hand before I can fully celebrate and tell the whole world that I passed. I think the whole K1 visa processing gave me PARANOIA...hahaha what an exhausting, sleepless, restless, draining experience? right VJers? But, It will be worth it once u get to be with ur love one.......Good luck and God bless to all of us!!!!

You do not need to mention it at all. If you attach the fiance(e) letters, one from each of you, that takes care of it. My answer tp question 18 was two sentences describing exactly the moment we met and not one minute after that. One photo and copies of boarding pass and passport stamps and I did not propose to my wife on that trip, it was several trips later which were described in the "evidence of ongoing relationship" at the interview stage and they never looked at that either. They DID look at the letters we signed.

I thought question 18 was "How you meet", Not on "How you were engaged"........

Yes, exactly what I interpreted and described.

Tall...I laugh every time I see your little video! The first time I saw it I was expecting to see Chevy Chase or Steve Maritn get struck in the face with women's panties or something...then this. Too funny.

This is partially true. Following this advice satisfies the USCIS requirements, but it may not be enough to satisfy your consulate later. Whereas your consular interview may be as easy and perfunctory as Gary & Alla's, it could be as difficult as mine. Any consulate can refuse to accept or look at evidence that's brought to an interview. If you include your statement of "how you met," and it bolsters the evidence of the legitimacy of your relationship, the consulate cannot (a prominent immigration attorney claims) deny the existence of this statement, because USCIS has received it. I personally suggest including your statement and crafting the language so that it supports the authenticity of your relationship.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You are exactly correct TBone. As I said, this is for the USCIS I-129f petition. Other information regarding the relationship is for the consulate at the interview stage, of which I provided much that they never looked at, but I would bring it all again.

Of course if you want to write a tome for them with the I-129f go ahead, but it is beyond me to suggest a "format" as the OP requested, when there is no such thing and no such need to give this information. I guess "freelance" is the best format suggestion I could make.

As for the final scenario you present, it seems a bit "out there" but OK, hey, I have no problem with too much gun. But it would be hard to get all the "ongoing realtionship" information crammed into the petition up front as the realtionship is ongoing. If the consulate is going to flatly refuse submission of "evidence" which was generated after the I-129f, I mean, what the heck can anyone do about that? Do such things really happen?
