AFTER MEDICAL...WAITING FOR INTERVIEW..????QUESTIONS

Ok, I am just learning all the terms etc... so bear with me

I am applying for a K1, with my son on a K4...

We had our medical yesterday. I am waiting for blood work to come back from my regular Dr for my Immunization to show that I had it... this should take another week or so, so I guess it'll hold up med results.

I am ready to send back my checklist tmrw with my DS230. I only send the checklist right? I don't give them photocopies of all the documents until my interview?

I fill out the DS160 on line, does that go directly to them? or do I mail them a copy of it after printing?

I'm hoping if I send in packet 3 this week, i'll have an interview by May :innocent: We are hoping for a June wedding :)

I also went to York Region and got the Police search for all of Canada... I assume this is the right one?

Any other advice from anyone at this stage would be appreciated :)

You just now applying for K1 and did your medical. The medical you have done have to be the place the EMBASSY authorize you to go. There are certain step you need to do but by the way I look at it, your ahead of the game. Medical exam in certain country is only good for 6 months. Beofe you can do anything with the DS230, your application have to be approved by the USCIS then they will send it to the NVC for futher steps, NVC then issue you a case number... nothing wrong about having plan ahead of times but you have to take steps by steps. Goodluck!

Maybe I should clarify... we applied for a fiance visa, we have already been approved, rec'd our NOA2 approval, and my packet 3 checklist. We called and they said the medical is good for 1 year and to go ahead and make an appmnt... I notice that many on here are sending in packet 3 and two months later, getting an appmnt within a month of that... that wold put us to May... which is good cause our NOA2 expires in May....

Sorry, I don't know all the terms :(

I am ready to send back my checklist tmrw with my DS230. I only send the checklist right? I don't give them photocopies of all the documents until my interview?

The DS230 should have been faxed to them immediately. Make sure you fax this asap even if you don't fax your checklist tomorrow. Also, you are correct not to fax all of your supporting documents. Bring all documents/photocopies to your interview. They only want the checklist & DS230 signed and faxed.

I fill out the DS160 on line, does that go directly to them? or do I mail them a copy of it after printing?

That goes directly to them, but bring a printout to the interview.

I'm hoping if I send in packet 3 this week, i'll have an interview by May :innocent: We are hoping for a June wedding :)

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but here's an estimate anyway:

Montreal Wait Times for Visa Interviews

I also went to York Region and got the Police search for all of Canada... I assume this is the right one?

I think that's beyond what they require - it should be a police certificate from everywhere you resided for at least 6 months since the age of 16. A Canada-wide certificate is more than adequate.

Any other advice from anyone at this stage would be appreciated :)

Read the instructions carefully and be sure to bring everything required. Organize all of your documents in a logical manner. Check the Montreal Consulate website for specific instructions and info on security checks to get into the building. Good luck!

Also, you can read Consulate reviews to get an idea of what you're in for. Go to "Embassy Info" or "Reviews: Embassy/USCIS" link up near the top right-hand corner of any page on VJ.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you can also just send your DS-230 along with your checklist to the Montreal consulate .. You do not have to necessarily fax it.

Just to be on the safe side though, I would send both DS-230 and the checklist together. Sometimes documents tend to get lost.

Last time I checked, interviews waiting time in Montreal are around 4 months this time of the year.

Also, don't worry too much about the NOA2 expiration date. As long as your case is active and moving forward they will extend that date automatically. That would be a complete different story if you did not send them anything before the NOA2 expiration date I believe, but this is not your case so you should be fine.

PS : Big thanks to Krikit for the NOA2 info ;)

The Vancouver instructions state to fax DS230 straight away. If it is different for Montreal, then I apologize for speaking out of turn.

To the OP: just follow the instructions in packet 3 explicitly and you shouldn't have any problems. ;)

Aww cmon .. there is no need to apologize at all, I was just saying that this might be another possibility to handle it through the Montreal consulate. Maybe it is different in Vancouver, I have absolutely no idea.

You should not apologize for giving advices, this is OK ;) after all maybe I am wrong  but this is the way I did it, I sent the DS-230 along with the checklist and a cover page mentioning my case number in the same envelope to the Montreal US consulate.

Apologizing too much is a bad habit of mine... one that I'll probably need to stop before I move to the States, or it will be obvious that I'm not an American ;)

But yeah, I just don't want to give inaccurate info.

Keep in mind Vancouver and Montreal do things differently!! Im wasn't a k1'er, but I dont think Mtl accept it by fax, where as vancouver does. I could be wrong

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I originally sent in a ds230 a few months ago, now my lawyers office has me filling out another one.

I have another question... I messed up filling out the DS-160 last night :(

I printed out the completed application, but my session expired before I could print the confirmation receipt. So it was completed ok, but I never printed receipt... and I never entered my email address for it to be emailed to me... I know I know, pretty dumb!

Now I am sending off my entire packet 3 today... with copies of our DS-160's, but my confirmation receipt is missing :( Is this going to be a problem?

I figured I would send it anyways.... at least i'll get logged and placed in que for an interview.

If Montreal does not confirm receipt of this package, how do you know they got it? I mean do you wait 2 months and then call only to find out it was never rec'd?

Thanks for all your help!

Montreal's K-1 packet 3 states the following:

Please send the requested forms to this address:

U.S. Consulate General

Attention: IV Issuance

P.O. Box 65, Station Desjardins

Montreal, QC

H5B 1G1

They don't say anything about faxing the forms to them. However, they do provide a fax number later in the letter, in this context:

When communicating with this office, please provide your name and case number exactly as shown at the bottom of this letter. If the name in the passport does not match the name listed below, please contact us by email: Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov. You may also reach us by fax at 514-398-9748...

Regarding the DS-230:

Step One. Plase complete and return immediately to this office the enclosed Form DS-230 Part I...

Regarding poprock's DS-160... If the printouts you managed to get have the barcode they still might be able to retrieve the DS-160. Otherwise you are better off filling it out again. Also, you can send the document checklist and DS-230 part I via XpressPost and that way you have a tracking number. 2 weeks after the package is delivered to the PO box, you can contact Montreal via email to confirm that they have received your documents.

Lifting Conditions

01-Jun-2011: Filed I-751

06-Jun-2011: I-751 NOA

20-Jul-2011: Biometrics appointment
