i am a k-3 visa holder who is planning on going to canada for couple of days in order to visit my sick grandma. since i got the employment authorization card yesterday i really dunno whether or not i should go there now. it says "NOT VAID FOR REENTRY TO US" is it meant that i cannot use that card when i come back to us? if i have to go there what i can do to keep my EAC valid? am i able to get a replacement or so sth else? thank you for for your attention.

p.s.

i have a silly question which is whether or not i have to use the emplyment authorization card to go to ss office in order to get a blue-paper-ss card like every resident/citizen is having ?

As a K-3 visa holder, I believe that it is valid for multiple entries, so you would use your passport with the visa when re-entering the USA.

Yes, take the EAD to the SS office to apply for an SSN.

The language on the EAD card simply indicates that you cannot present that card to Border Patrol and expect to be allowed entry to the USA. As mentioned, you will need your passport.

Please check further on my assumptions regarding multiple entries. My wife was not a K-3 holder, so what I stated was my understanding. Perhaps you could post your question in the K-3 forum as well.

Regarding going to school, I think this will depend on the school. I know that there are schools that require proof of residency in order to qualify for in-state tuition rates. It is possible that they may need you to provide a copy of your green card to meet their needs. Your question must be posed directly to the schools that you are interested in attending.

Yup K3 Visa is a mutilple entry visa, until it expires, of course lol. As long as the visa is still valid u can travel outside the US. And come back with no problem lol

About the school, yup u need the GC to qualify for in state rates. Even if u have a SS# but u dont have the GC, u are always a International Student and u dont qualify for grants, finacial aid, etc. With ur K3 Visa u can study, the school will accept u, but u will be admitted as an international student.

Good Luck!!!

The international student vs resident may vary state by state and school to school. I believe that in California, you should have resided in the state (whether or not you have the GC yet) for a year to qualify for in-state tuition. Some people reported that as a spouse of a UCS, they were considered residents. Best to check with individual schools to get the info.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail
