congrats..brother jim on the weight loss..sanita did the same for me...slowly, she has changed my eating habits.worked me too death and made me walk 3 miles a day in the Park....

I took a four month furlough from the gym but started back on Jan. 20th. I go four days a week. I need to walk more and want to get back to walking and carrying my clubs at the golf course. They say men should do 11,000 to 12,000 steps a day. I am doing about half that so need to pick up the pace.

 you are getting there, my friend

I'm have a 'well duh' moment. 3,000 calories = 1lb. Consume more calories than you burn and every time that adds up to 3,000 you'll gain a pound and of course for reduction vice versa. There is no rocket science, but that doesn't make it easier :)

It certanily is easier to put it on than off.

Several years ago I tried to change my eating habits and started eating about 1600 calories of healthy food a day. The fat just melted off and I lost 50 pounds in about 90 days. Not a good way to loose weight cause not only did I eventually gain it back I also put on an additional 40 pounds. I am now modifying my life style. I am eating a lot fewer calories and will continually make adjustments until I can find the range were I loose about 1 or 2 pounds a week until I reach my goal weight. I will then re-evaluate my calorie consumption to find the appropriate amount to maintain my weight. Gone are the days of cheeseburgers and pizza. I will miss them but the alternative is much more grim

Gone for now, but when you reach your goal weight you can have these as 'luxury' items on days that you burn extra calories or just because. The trick is to know that this is a luxury and that it can never be a staple :) Good luck though, you sound as though you really have a plan and are determined to make it.:thumbs:

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I am actually starting to like what I am eating now. I just need to keep the variety going so I won't get bored. The best couple of things I did to start with was to write down everything I eat and the fat and calorie content and then I stopped eating after about 5pm.

 calories are calories. 2,000 calories of fruits and veggies calculate the same as 2,000 calories worth of big macs. although the nutritional value of each is very different, they have the same impact on weight.

Sorta true.

Its not just weight impact but potential detrimental effects to metabolism and energy balance. Hence in that regard, they are not the same.

*thinking of some fried chicken now*

Atkins chicken tonight. Chicken pieces rolled in spiced pork rinds, and oven baked! You would swear you are eating KFC!

Eat high quality carbs (100% whole grain and veggies) and high quality fats (olive oil). The problem is that most processed foods have neither.

edit: and exercise!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

5 AM????

Now that's dedication :D

It is a lot less crowded then. Besides, I have always been a morning person so I hit the gym for 45 minutes and am at work but seven.

I'm a morning person. 5 am is the middle of the night!

True though, about the gym. I normally hit around 4.30 pm and it is often busy at that time, although never in the pool.

I used to go after work but now I have to work until 4:30 so by the time I get to the gym it is after 5 and very crowded. At 5am I can blow right through all the machines I want to use. I did make a mistake and weighed myself again. Still gaining weight but think it is water weight, just can't figure out how to stop it

yea, love to watch the man play. I've probably hit one Tiger like shot in my entire life  He will certainly pull the ratings back up.

Alcohol is not your friend while you are trying to lose weight. Lots of 'empty' calories :(

Its an unwritten law, play golf, drink beer :P
