Music is a matter of taste, it has a lot to do with upbringing, so if you have never experience or live through the struggle the singer is expressing, you may not be able to associate with the message, some people like hard rock, disco, pop, heavy metal, but for me I can't stand techno, heavy metal, can't find the rhythm.

Basically, rap is profanity claiming to be a music style--and its practitioners are all chops.

That generalization is simply not accurate. There are a lot of prolific rappers who don't blurt out profanity in every sentence.
