Hey

I'll have my interview tomorrow and I'm starting to look at flights.

How long should the layover be in order for me to have enough time to go through the whole customs thing?

Any experiences? And what happens if it'll take longer than expected and I'd miss my flight?

Give yourself 3 to 4 hours for POE

If you miss the fllight, they will re book on the next flight out.

It may be a few hours or many hours before, and I believe you will be a Stand By passenger.

Good answer. I always say allow two addational hours for POE processing though it may be much less, you also have to deal with the normal customs, baggage, etc. I wouldn't feel at all comfortable with less than 3 hours.

If you miss a connecting flight because of customs or your flight was late, the will put you on the next available flight for no additional charge (stand by)

i think ahmed just had between 3-4 (it just worked out that way) maybe at times seemed a little to long but better to be there than miss a flight and then in chicago his customs was a breeze, he had no problems at all

When my husband came to visit in 2007 his fight had been delayed in Germany several hours so of course he missed the flight from NY. He had to wait until the next day for a flight. The airline gave him meal vouchers and put him up in a nice hotel for the night.

I've thought about this as well, and worked out an itinerary that gives me 6 hours in Atlanta for my connecting flight. After regular immigration and gate times, that would normally leave something like a five hours and fifteen minutes wait between flights, and having heard that on bad days it can take up to as much as 4 hours, I think that's pretty safe. I'm fully expecting it to not take much more than half an hour, as I'm in on one of the first flights of the afternoon transatlantic rush, and if that's how it goes, I'll have around five hours to kill in a Delta lounge, which suits me just fine. $50 is nothing for a day pass away from the main concourses.

It truly must be with the help of divine intervention that after entering into this well-defined bureaucratic process, we were blessed with the expected outcome within the predefined timeline. Praise deities!
