IR1 and K3 Documents

Hi,

My spouse is currently in the process for the K-3 and IR1 visa. We are waiting for packet 3 for the K-3 and we just mailed the DS 3032 for the IR1 and am waiting the IV application bill.

My question is about the document process. I know for some countries, the NVC requires original documents or certified copies be sent to the NVC with the DS 230 application. But for other countries, the NVC only requires the DS 230 to be sent and the originals to be collected/kept so that they can be submitted at the time of the interview. What is the rule for Bangladesh, should the originals be sent or kept for the interview?

Also, if the originals are to be sent with the IR1 application, what do we do in case the K3 interview is scheduled first and we need the originals?

And can anyone advise how to attain certified copies of documents?

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks.

I'm 100% sure NVC requires the originals. I've always wondered how people switch the K-3 interview to IR-1 when the originals have been sent to NVC. I guess you have to have 2 originals of everything.

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

NVC cares less what country. They require originals!

Check out "Ling Che NVC shortcuts". It will speed things up.

And for SURE forget about the K3 and go all the way with the IR-1.

Yes, I am beginning to get that feeling as well, local Embassy is working too slowly on the K3 and they seem to have problems sending mail within Bangladesh. NVC is working much quicker on the IR1 and we had no problem receiving mail from NVC to Bangladesh. I am still a little paranoid of sending in all the originals though if the NVC asks for it (even though we will receive them back during interview). I do not have duplicates of these, and they may be hard to create now in case needed for anything before interview, as they were created more than a year back. But I guess a risk worth taking for the IR1. Thanks for all your feedback.

One question about the pictures if anyone knows: The specifications that the NVC requires seems to be the same as for standard passport photos. Is this accurate or are there any major differences between pictures for NVC and passport pictures?

Thanks again.

Hi HSB,

I think I can give u some idea about my experiences in NVC and Dhaka Embassy....I am very happy to convey u that, I am just done with my case at NVC. Also waiting for Emabssy to schedule my K3 interview date...Please have a look at the timeline and u would get some idea about how things goes that US Embassy Dhaka...Not to mention, they are extremely slow.

For K3, u DO NOT need to submit any original document. My packet 3 contained 1 letter and 2 forms. one form was DS 156 and another one was a checklist of documents along with Applicant Statement, and both of these were sent after been filled up and signed by the beneficiary... after u send these two form u should be getting an interview date...

For, CR1 process at NVC you must submit all the original documents. Hope u already know what u need, then againg, here is my list of docs:

1.Two (2) Passport Size Photographs of Beneficiary (NVC Case Number, Beneficiary’s full name, and date of birth are written on back of both)

2.DS-230 Part 1 completed and signed by beneficiary

3.DS-230 Part 2 completed by beneficiary – unsigned, as of yet, per instruction

4.Photocopy of the Biographic Data Pages of Beneficiary’s New Passport

5.Original copy of Birth Certificate

6.Original Marriage Certificate and Nikah Nama (Bengali and English version) duly Authenticated by the Notary Public

8.Original copy Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) executed by the Ramna Model Police Station Dhaka, issued in pursuance of the Ministry of Home Affairs and duly attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Government of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh

Here I would also like u to know that, standard passport photo of Bangladesh has different size than US standard needed for US immigratiom. Please try to have ur photos from VIP Studio at Gulshan. They r the best in this business. There are people here who gets RFE for photos taken in wrong shape and color... So becareful about it...

Anything else left please contact me, I will be here to help u guyss from my experience...

Sonia

Thanks Sonia. This is very helpful and nice to finally meet someone going through the experience at the same time. Most of the quotes from B-desh seems to be from 2-3 years ago. I actually received packet 3 for the K3 a few days ago, after waiting more than a month since they said they mailed it. They sent it to me in the US instead of my wife in Bangladesh for some reason, I think it went around in circles for sometime.

Anyway, the funny thing is we probably don't need it now since we are pursuing the CR1 instead of K3. I would consider pursuing both the CR1 and K3, but since I only have one copies of my wife's original documents which I will need to submit to the NVC for the CR1, I won't have my originals to show if they schedule an interview for the K3. It may be possible to get duplicates of all the originals, but I heard it is a big hassle and ultimately unnecessary if the CR1 process goes according to plan. I have a few thoughts about your comments:

1) I think the Nikah Nama only applies for Muslim marriages. Snce I have a Hindu marriage, I don't think I require this. I have a weddding certificate from the temple and a marraige affidavit signed and notarized by a high court magistrate. I think this should be sufficient for official marriage documents? Of course, we will bring lots of unofficial evidence to the interview as well.

2) Rearding the police certificate, will the Ramna model station issue certificates for all of Bangladesh? My wife lived in Comilla and Dhaka since the age of 16. She got a police certificate from the Comilla precinct signed by the officer in charge and notarized, and now she will need one for Dhaka as well. I assume the comilla certificate should be good enough for her time in comilla? And will she need to go to Ramna police for her Dhaka certificate or her local precinct? Not sure if you know this, but any feedback would be helpful. Also, how long did it take you to receive your police certificate?

3) Yes, I realized thankfully the Bangladesh passport had different picture requirements than the US Visas. The passport pics are slightly smaller, 2 X 1.75, while the visa pictures require 2 X 2. Not much different, the pictures I sent in for my wife's I-130 application to the USCIS were actually the size of the passport pictures, as I didn't realize then the USCIS had visa picture requirements. Luckily, the USCIS never got wise and approved her petition. But better not to take any chances, I sent my wife the list from the NVC of their recommended sites, and will advise her to try the VIP Gulshan.

Thanks again for your feedback.
