My wife recently was approved for a visa in Guangzhou. There are several things which made our case unique so I though may be worth posting.

First, I have paid no taxes for 3 years, since I live in China and don't make enough to pay taxes in the US. For this I needed a co-sponsor, but that didn't really solve the problem of me, as the petitioner, submitting my own Affidavit of Support. I was worried about this, but I simply wrote a letter explaining the situation and included my contracts for the last 3 years. They seemed to have no problems with that.

Next, since I came independently (not through any organization) for certain purposes not easily mentionable in China, it was difficult for me to show domicile. I simply asked my pastor to write a letter for me and included my voter reg. card as well as my life insurance policy and that did the trick.

My wife said they just asked a few questions, such as why we wanted to move to the US and a few other questions about how we met and when we got married, etc. Overall it wasn't too bad and they were very professional and through.

One other point to mention is that she was interviewed by a guy. From all reports I have heard, it is much easier to be approved if interview by a guy as opposed to a girl.

If anyone has any questions just let me know!

It sounds like you did a Direct Consular Filing from China. If so, congratulations but this should be moved to the DCF forum.

I actually wasn't really sure about that. I didn't file directly in Guangzhou, I first filed in Beijing, but Beijing doesn't have an immigrant visa office. I didn't know if that still qualified as a DCF. Maybe you could give some guidance on that?

HI,

 Hi, thanks for the info, Great you are approved. I am in somewhat similar situation. Please give me reply. married 3 years + ago in States moved back to China ChongQing immediately for 3+ years. We work together full time and Stay in China on average 8-9 months a year. Our work is humanitarian and similar teaching. I can get letters from Pastors or Non Profit to verify our work , Before I was a doctor she is translator consultant but we live simple life, small income now. We never applied for green card. When we go back to states we go on B1. But thinking next year getting her green card . We want to continue working about 5-7 months in China Asia and keep small condo in CQ. and also perhaps, rent or purchase a small home in States. Talked to attorney last night in San Diego by phone. He said DCF might be quicker and not to do K visa, I am no immigration expert by any means, What do you think.? If anyone knows how to DCF in Guangzhou if you have my situation thank for reply. Questions 1. How to DCF without residence card. Came on my own work for Non Profit for low pay, They give allowance for Travel some hotels for work etc. Because we do humanitarian related, Earthquake relief, Hospital work, orphanage work . I have a L visa , year to year renewal. Often China wants people to help , NGO etc, but sometimes they act as if what we do is of no value. Last year during the earthquake in China we worked for two months, Tried to help do what every we could. But immigration might not understand. You dont have a real job. Why would you want to do something like that. Thanks for any info you can help us with. Great site.

Good luck
