Hello TPC,

Please read the links that Aussiewench provided. NVC will assign you a case number which takes place in about 2-3 weeks after the approval. There are basically two different tracks of NVC process:

1) Select Choice of Agent (DS 3032) ---> IV Bill ($380) ---> DS 230 I and/or DS 230 II and photocopy of biographic informanation pages of the benecifiary

2) AOS (Affidavit of Support) Bill ($70) ---> Notarized I-864 (with last 3 years' tax transcripts from IRS, W-2s, Letter from Employer and/or recent pay stub)

Once NVC will receive everything and review them, they will contact you for further information, if they find anything missing. If not, NVC will send the case to the US Embassy/Consulate for IV interview.

After NVC assigned a case number, they will generate DS 3032 and AOS Bill and send them to you. Your spouse, the beneficiary needs to sign and date the DS 3032 and mail it to NVC. DS 3032 is for selecting a choice of agent on behalf of the beneficiary. The designated choice of agent will receive al future correspondence during the NVC process. Your spouse should assign you as the choice of agent.

BUT, many people have been successful selecting their choice of agents by email. In this way, you would save some time. Just have your spouse email NVC with the request to appoint you as the choice of agent. Please read the link that Aussie provided for sample email.

You still have some days before a case number will be assigned by NVC. In the meantime, start gathering last 3 years' tax transcripts from IRS, have your last 3 years' W-2s ready (photocopy), etc.

One good thing about CR-1 would be, once your spouse is in USA, there is no need for adjustment of status whereas with K-3 visa, your spouse needs to adjust his/her status in USA. I understand that K-3 can bring your spouse quicker. So I would keep working on CR-1 process while hoping for a K-3 good news soon.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Filed: Citizen (pnd) Country: Nigeria

Thank you so much for the instructions. I have already gathered all of the documents that you listed above. I have already filled out the forms for my I129f package 3. I try to stay a step ahead. I just didn't expect the I130 to get approved first. Now, I will do as all of us have been doing for months "hurry up and wait".

In the mean time while I wait, what is the next step to persuing the I-130 visa?

Have a read of the below links. The flowchart will show you the various steps through NVC and the timesavers and shortcuts will save you much time during the NVC process.
