Hi

I am interested to know if anyone can recommend a health insurance plan for my fiance. My job does not cover dependents and i want my lady to be covered when she arrives. Are there any types of health plans for new fiance arrivals? My wife to be does plan on working after she gets a work permit, so I would probably only need it for 1 year and for emergency purposes. Are there any websites to check out? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

We have Blue Cross Blue Shield's Short term health insurance; you can get it or a maximum of 180 days in one go (you can renew after that) and covers emergencies and diagnostics as well as some routine visits. We used it once so far, for the twins one year checkup and vaccinations. All went very smoothly with them paying the clinic directly, and it is very affordable.

Although your employer plan does not cover dependents, often you can "buy" into the plan for your spouse during open enrollment periods. Group plans are generally less expensive than individual plans. Ask your employer about that.

I have seen a few deals offered on tv, so keep a notebook and pencil handy when watching TV. Some states have a department of insurance, and you can contact them to see which companies offer coverage in your area.

Does your employer provide insurance through a third party? (Insurance company?) Then you can most likely add your WIFE when you are married. They will not cover her as a fiancee and YOU cannot buy health insurance for her until you are married, certainly you can explore the possibilties, but until you are married she would need to "buy" the policy.

Your employer may not contribute money for dependents, but if they are using an insurance company you can buy and pay for this coverage yourself. A marriage is classified as a "change of life" alomg with births, etc. and you are eligible to enroll her right away with waiting for open enrollment, usually effective the first day of the month follwing your marriage. If this is the case your risk is minimal but do NOT let her get pregnant before the insurance takes affect! :)
