The only part I don't "get" is.... Why is it that those who are the MOST offended are always white liberals?

My God they fall all over themselves to find some scrap of evidence, to prove racism is still alive and well, .. I suppose this evidence insures they still have a purpose.

We can make jest at each other's differences, without creating inferiority complexes, can't we? Can we drop the facade of self-rightous outrage in defense of a race that can demonstrably defend itself? I mean, we white folk can do it. What make you think we are unique in that ability?

The point here surely is that this kind of thing isn't something that an elected public official should be involved in.

I love jokes, I am all for jokes, but this is not a joke about something contemporary to and specifically about Barack Obama, it's about the notion that 'a black man' has no right to inhabit the White House, that he can't be trusted to treat it properly, that he is nothing more than some 'uppity ***' who doesn't know his station in life. You must have a dark corner in your heart to take "off humor" like this joke and make more out of it than what it is.

That's like supposing people who draw cartoon jokes about the Pope, are really trying to "Destroy the Catholic church".

Its only being "made more of" because people like yourself refuse to condemn it.

That does seem strange to me - and I rather think that a few people here are simply defending this because people they regularly butt heads with it are against it.

I guess integrity is a disposable concept.

What's wrong with condemning and argument on its own merits? I mean... why the rigamarole. It isn't the most outrageous thing I've ever seen - but its clearly racist.

Well now let me see, where did I get this 'stuff' from. Oh, well that would be by understanding the MEANING of the stereotypical image that was portrayed with the use of a watermelon patch as depicted in the OP. There is nothing inherently amusing about Barack Obama turning the White House lawn into a produce farm, whatever BY, the Australian might think. The only 'funny' thing about it is there are some of you feigning 'innocence' about the meaning of this joke all the while failing to convince that there is anything humerous about it if you take the racial inference away.

The only person who possibly might find this funny is some white dude who thinks that black dudes like Obama (whatever degree of blackness one decides he is, after we have performed the 'skin tint' test) should not be in the White House. See?

Watermelons are simply fruit and you can buy one in any grocery store. Really, what harm is there in showing a watermelon patch in front of the White House? I mean, please, Obama would love a patch for his daughters.

I don't condemn jokes that play off of stereotypes, sometimes they are funny and sometimes not.

What I would condemn is sending any such joke out to a mailing list or any place where it might be offensive to someone.
