The items Mohamed admitted include the following:

1. The detainee is an Ethiopian who lived in the United States from 1992 to 1994, and in London, United Kingdom, until he departed for Pakistan in 2001.

2. The detainee arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, in June 2001, and traveled to the al Farouq training camp in Afghanistan, to receive paramilitary training.

3. At the al Farouq camp, the detainee received 40 days of training in light arms handling, explosives, and principles of topography.

4. The detainee was taught to falsify documents, and received instruction from a senior al Qaeda operative on how to encode telephone numbers before passing them to another individual.

That is just a coincidence. Hearsay. After all if he says he went to Afghanistan for a 'rehabilitation' then we should take his word for it. He must have gone to Pakistan for dance lessons.

Why am I not surprised that the two biggest wankers of VJ believe him.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The ones they should really lock up are these suicide bombers that blew up a bunch of innocent people.

And the ones they let go must be because the original 'evidence' wasn't strong enough to stick. Of course... stick someone in a cell for a while with evidence that isn't strong enough and you likely increase the chances of them not liking you very much afterwards...

Call me stupid, but do you two want to lock up the suicide bombers as whole bodies, or in the bits and pieces left behind when 20lbs of C4 goes off with a bang?

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

No surprise that Australia's dumbest export to the US totally missed the point.

Again.

Well, they certainly took six years of my life, baked me alive in hot places and froze me to death in cold places, stand at attention for hours, and if that isn't torture, I don't know what is.

Help me out, Nick. Did you volunteer to work for the US government in its military? Or were you drafted?

The case of Binyam Mohamed who returned to Britain after 7 years in Guantanomo without a trial.

Is this the Free World we mean?

PD, you started this thread off defending the evil among us and like any good Lib, you are sticking to your guns no matter what evidence is presented.

Case in Point why "Liberals thrive" in the University atmosphere but, endanger us all at political leaders.

Actually I was pretty up front about why I posted it, and that wasn't it.

But now that you mention it - there is a clear point of principle there, regardless of the guilt or actions of the guy in question.

That the US resorted either or both have undermined this idea that the US has some moral authority based on the legacy of world war 2 achievements and the notion of public freedom enshrined in its constitution. Quite frankly, it is a bit ludicrous to imagine that one nation can uphold the human rights, hence the institution of the UN. Of course the US never quite got behind that idea and a lot of that has to do with a penchant for brutal punishment, the eye for an eye brigade.

The UN track record on detainees or POWs? The UN troops did a wonderful job watching 1,000s of men and boys being marched off to be executed in Bosnia. No POWs problems there. Way to go UN!

Strange... weren't we part of the UN Peacekeeping effort?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

OK stupid. (you asked...)

No but seriously (since I am not really calling you what you wanted)... I think that if the 'suicide bomber' was released (don't let that nugget of truth slap you too hard now), its... I don't know... somehow likely that there was... ummmm... after how many years... no justification... or (here's the biggie...) ummmmm... evidence... to hold him any more?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Drafted, while many of my classmates knocked up a girl and got married to avoid the draft, already had my share of poverty, dad abandoned us. The kids with wealthy parents beat the draft by going to college, no way in hell could I afford that. Practically all my my buddies were from poor families, we had a lot in common. A few did get married in the service, but to get permission to be married had to knock up a girl first and have her parents screaming at your CO. But did they live in poverty. We stole food from the mess hall so they could eat. No such thing as food stamps. Base housing was limited, and trying to find a cheap place to rent is no different then trying to find one near a university today. Screw the GI was our favorite expression. Not much different today in an all volunteer military, still a lot on food stamps.

How can Bush say he needs money for the troops, that lying SOB. Was just reported that our non-military aid to Iraq, only about 40% of it went for reconstruction, they have no idea where the other 60% went to. Some line of BS where a contractor used subcontractors with more subcontractors. I dealt with the US government with contracts, first had to borrow money from a bank to pay the help, and had to meet all specifications, otherwise the entire order would have been rejected, then I got the check. I also used subcontractors, but I was the responsible party for them. Something changed drastically in how the Bush government is dealing with contractors. Why aren't they holding the original contractor responsible?

I feel it's complete stupidity to dress our boys as soldiers in Iraq dealing with an enemy that does not have to wear uniforms, they are walking targets. Can't believe how stupid Bush and the military has become.

Would be nice to catch a suicide bomber before he pulls the pin, but only one way to deal with those, shoot them. Was just saying, they don't bring guys like that to the bay. My wildest dream was to have Bush in my outfit, but had other guys like that, and would kick butt and kick butt hard.

I always thought that using the US military to fight a "War on terror" was not unlike trying to kill flies with a sledgehammer.

There always has been a place to use the uniformed services... just not that way.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

No, the UN was responsible for the safe havens from 1992-1995. After the Dayton Accords the U.S., UK, France and a multi-nation peacekeeping force IFOR came in 1996. I was never part of UN peacekeeping force- no blue helmet.
