I'm not sure...I haven't looked in the AOS thread for quite a while, but I seem to remember the name check thread becoming buried and then brought back every so often. I don't think people are waiting for years anymore tho... I recall a bunch of approvals around the time my husband's was approved (early 2008). I remember there were a couple of people who'd waited for four years (at that point, we'd been waiting for about two). And renewing those interim benefits at great expense..what a pain in the ####### that was! Actually, Sunday is the two-year anniversary of my receipt of the hallowed AOS approval e-mail! I fear that Jon will get stuck again when he applies for naturalization because it wasn't clear whether his name check was cleared, or they just finally approved cases that were waiting on the name check. I read somewhere that the rules were changed because the backlog was enormous, and a bunch of cases were finally approved w/o the name check.

I just noticed that I signed up two days before you (n00b!) :)

If you do not read the rules clearly, you will get REF for being 2008 or later and then stuck in a create forEVAH. You cannot appeal if you try to AOS from a create -- you had intent because you KNOW this is for 2005-2007 only and this is FRAUD. You will be banz0red for misrep and then you can never come back in unless you get Laurel Scott to help you write a hardship letter so why don't you NAFF OFF and read immigrate2us.net now so you can be ready.

Welcome to VJ! :D

Those were some fun times....I always imagined the nefarious things people with un-name-checked names could get up to while waiting for the FBI computer to work properly and give them their clearance, completely making the whole process a farce. Personally I wanted to fly a plane into the the Missouri National Benefits Center.

Now I perused the site before I signed up and asked my first stupid question which is thankfully lost to the pre-2006 purge.

I read it quite a bit too before signing up. I remember being scared of it--the hysterical tone of the threads, bossy know-it-alls, etc. And I think the horrifying glittery signatures (lovely Joyce is exempt, of course!) reached a peak in about 2006. I finally signed up when we were toward the end of the K-1 process because there was a delay between packets 2 and 3 that had us worried. I feel I need to come clean: The husband referred more to britishexpats during that time (*gasp!*). He has a VJ account but hasn't used it in quite a while.

I'm not sure what my first post was, but I did have a rambling post early on encouraging people to take a chance and keep working between EADs. (We faced this very dilemma--Jon was between EADs for about three weeks, I think.) I'd talked to my friend's sister who works for DHS, and she said not to worry about it if the first EAD had been approved and the second was in process. Of course, I got jumped on for encouraging people to do illegal things that would jeopardize their very existences. I remember LaL coming to my defense, bless her.

I hope there's another purge soon, because I know I posted a lot of nonsense in 2007 and 2008 before my (semi)retirement from participating in political threads.

I have to be honest - I do think British expats generally has better info, IMO.
