My wife travels to the US for business every couple of months, and she's scheduled to go at least twice during the process. We just found out today that she's scheduled to go the day after our I-130 interview in Tokyo. So this is a two-parter:

1) As long as it's clearly for business, is this permissible? Anyone with direct experience doing this? She isn't going to give notice to her company for a while yet, but perhaps she could finagle a "this person is our employee and is expected back at her desk next week" letter out of her company? Would that help? Anything else you can think of?

2) Assuming it's generally OK, would there be any reason she couldn't travel to the US the day after our I-130? I'm under the impression that we show them our passports and take them home at the end of the day, but is there any possibility they would need to keep our original copies for a brief period?

Perhaps this is all ridiculous and there's no way it's allowed. If so, be gentle with me! We didn't think we were leaving so soon and we're trying to come up to speed on this process very quickly. Thanks, all.
