I will be going back to the Philippines when my fiancee has her interview. I plan on attending the interview with her. Does anyone have any experience with this? Anything you could share with me would be greatly appreciated. I have found lots of embassy interview experiences here and on asawa, but none seem to have any experiences where the filipina had her fiance with her.

Hi Dean;

As lira says, you as the USC peitioner present on the interview date of your fiance will be a "BIG" advantage to make it approved. As my husband did, he was more been asked throughly to prove all matters about affidavit of support, also weve been asked all about relationships and trips weve been together.

gudluck! & welcome visiting phils again.

Hi peeps,

I'm just wondering what would be the causes that they will delay the issuance of the visa or review more your case?

Thanks in advance.

I found this link. It got some sample insterview questions.. quite neat :) .

My fiance's interview is coming up, since I am here in the Philippines, I will accompany her to the embassy in Manila.

Will I be able to sit with her during the interview?

What are the interviewer's responsibilities? (i.e. I know he/she will need to determine whether my fiance and I will be able to financially support ourselves when in America)

What other questions can come up during the interview? (thanks for that link of possible interview questions)

congrats on your AOS approval!!!

i was wondering if i can just follow the western way regarding the middle name?

see i have 2 first names and the way i filled out my application for the ssn, i listed my 2nd name as my middle name then took my husband's last name, dropping my father's last name altogether

will this cause a problem?

thanks for any input!!!

Hi Jeeleebee,

I have no idea on that. Maybe some expert will post answer for you.

But when i encounter that "big" issue about new name arrangement, the 1st thing in my mind will be, if it will cause a problem.... since i do believe naming in phils should be that way first/2nd names - mother-fathername. and when u got married, ur father's name will be ur new middlename.

Im about to expire my passport next year, and that i thought will cause a problem, which should be transform in how phil govt do the filing when u got married already.

As per john_and_marlene, they used mother's name as middlename, but they will modified it on her next stage in INS which is the naturalization application.

2 first names is complicated, but as we do it on file in manila, we put it altogether in the first name column. I just don't know how it goes in US for having 2 names in a firstname column. Bcos my husband is using his 2nd name too as his middlename.

gudluck on to that!

HI aphamea,

1st your fiance will be called in window to submit/verify her originals from her files. And when the interview time, yes your allowed to sit with her.

Your fiance will be question more often, and interviewer will be focused more asking you all about in your affidavit of support and your plans in US.

gudluck and welcome again in Manila.

Thanks for the congratulations ... we are very happy about the AOS approval.

Yes, she did send an authorization letter. She was able to process it without any problem.

The person that did it for us was a relative of a friend. She didn't know Marlene personally and asked for more compensation than we thought reasonable, but we paid it. With the DHL fees both ways, Western Union fees, and her expenses and compensation, we spent about $300.

wow, that is a big amount! how quickly did Marlene get the certificate? from the time she sent the dox to Duabi and that person finished processing it.

It took 2 weeks for the clearance to be processed after being presented in person.

DHL took 2 - 3 days each way.

The lady acting as our agent also had to arrange time off work to turn it in and pick it up.

x x x Note that if you read the instructions, they say that you have to submit a whole bunch of docs, *including* your nbi. These documents are forwarded to the embassy by the NVC. Ok, now the supplement says it's from the Embassy. x x x The next line says "Please have all documents at the time of your interview to avoid processing delays." This list is a subset of the other one, but that's no problem until.... nbi again?

We can only get one nbi per year. How are we supposed to send it to the NVC *and* have it at the interview?

We're already concerned how we'll handle the nbi for our K3 (since we'll submit it to the NVC before the interview and it should already be at the embassy by then). We're assuming that it's ok at the K3 to just tell them that they already have the NBI there at the embassy and give them the case number so they can look it up.

I'm not CR1 but I would assume that since NBI clearance has been submitted to NVC, the embassy would not ask for another one during interview since NVC forwards the entire case folder to Manila. The embassy people should see that the clearance is there in the file alright.

At any rate, the NBI issues two copies of clearance. The other one is for personal file. Perhaps your wife can give the embassy her personal copy if embassy insists on another clearance. Before she surrenders her copy, make sure she keeps a photocopy on file.

Another thing that your wife can do is to go to an NBI satellite office and bring with her a copy of her NBI clearance and ask if she can have another copy issued. It's not as if your wife is applying for a new clearance. She will only be asking for a copy of her current clearance. Just tell NBI that the embassy needs another one. If the satellite office agrees, it only needs to scan the bar code in her clearance and she'll have another clearance in less than 10 minutes (if line is short).

Updated to add packet date and case number of tomnjas. Also added danlet to our list. Welcome danlet. Would appreciate if you could provide us with your case number. Did you request for a military expedite hence you were granted with early appointment? Thanks.

Finally got our interview date in Manila, one month earlier than we expected. September 25th.

Please update our info under CR-1. I have no idea about the other dates you have there, sorry.

My wife should be expecting a letter regarding her medical appointment now?

JoelandAnalyn,

I see in your timeline that your wife has received her packet 4 on July 15. Her medical appointment should be indicated alongside her interview date in the appointment letter. Instructions for medical exams are also enclosed in the packet.

Updated to add packet receipt and interview date of JoelandAnalyn.

I received a letter on July 15th with the appointment date along with some information about the vaccinations and some other information about what documents to bring, etc. My wife hasn't recieved anything. I thought since I am the agent that I receive all the paperwork related to the case, or maybe she also receives a copy? Mine does not say anything about a medical appointment date, only information about the vaccinations.

Joel,

We're not familiar with procedures for CR1 but you may want to call Dept. of State at (202) 663-1225 ext. 1,0,0 to ask if your wife will be receiving a packet anytime soon. Emphasize that she is CR1. Be ready with your case number before calling DOS.

Do let us know of developments in your case so that others taking the CR1 route can have a better understanding of the process. We've only had a few CR1 cases in this thread and the members were not active posters.

You may also want to check out www.asawa.org

Good luck.

Thank you for the information PW. We were under the impression that it was not even possible to get official copies of the same clearance. If we can, that would be great! Our whole case is pretty straightforward and this would have been my only real concern for AR if they refused to look up the nbi that we'd already submitted while we were already there and decided they'll just do it in their own (eternally slow) time. She'll have no problem with the interview, and I'll be there for help/moral support. :)

We were going to do pretty much just what you said regarding the personal copy. She has made a photocopy of the entire nbi document and we will just send the official use half of it to the NVC for our CR1. Then for the K3 interview, we would take the photocopy, her personal half, and tell them that they should have the official half in their files already and give them our CR1 case number. Hopefully the satelite office will be helpful. Thanks again  and ttyl,

Let me show you how to get your tax returns the easy way

aussiewench's thread for kicking butt in the NVC ('cause i'm too lazy to keep looking it up - haha)

We stopped pursuit of CR-1 to pursue K3/AOS. For us, both required the same document, we could only have one valid copy, and the K3 was moving faster.
